Ahead of Round 9 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship in Berlin on May 19, Frenchman and former Formula E driver Stephane Sarrazin will join the MS&AD Andretti team for the remainder of the season.
Sarrazin will pilot the No. 27 MS&AD Andretti ATEC-03, replacing rookie Tom Blomqvist who scored a season-best finish of eighth in six rounds with Andretti Formula E. Blomqvist, a BMW Works driver, will depart Formula E to focus on driving in the BMW GTE Program in the World Endurance Championship.
“First off – we are very thankful for the effort and time that Tom Blomqvist put in this season,” said Andretti Formula E CEO, Michael Andretti. “Stéphane Sarrazin brings with him a wealth of experience in Formula E. He is one of the smartest, most well-versed drivers in motorsports and we are excited for him to bring his knowledge to the MS&AD Andretti team. We will make a strong push and hopefully finish the season on a high note at the last four races.”
Sarrazin has competed in 33 Formula E races over three seasons, including 20 top 10s and three podiums. The 42-year-old driver finished a career-best sixth in the championship standings in Season Two by scoring points in every race of the season.
“I am really happy to be joining the MS&AD Andretti team,” said Sarrazin. “After three seasons and a fantastic experience, it’s great to be back in Formula E. I will give my best to the team and try to score as many points as possible in the last four races of the season.”
Over his long career in motorsport, Sarrazin has put together an impressive resume, having competed in Formula One, WEC, WRC and many other disciplines. He will bring this experience to an MS&AD Andretti team that has shown pace all season but is looking for the edge it needs to find the podium.
Sarrazin and Antonio Felix da Costa will team up for the first time at the BMW i Berlin E-Prix on May 19, followed by the Zurich E-Prix and the doubleheader season finale at MS&AD Andretti’s home race in New York.
