Students from Heriot Watt University were treated to the trip of a lifetime when they were invited to be guests of the DS Virgin Racing team in the Putrajaya ePrix pitlane.

Following on from a special guest appearance during a lecture from Sam Bird, Michela Cerruti and Spark Racing engineer Theo Gouzin at the inaugural race in 2014, the same students were invited to get closer to the action in the Formula E paddock.

The students had the opportunity to meet DS Virgin Racing driver Sam Bird and technical director Sylvain Filippi to ask questions about the Formula E car and future electric vehicle technology solutions.

Putrajaya race winner Sam Bird said: “I’m proud that I’ve been selected to do these sort of events. It means that I must be an alright speaker! Seriously though it’s important to promote it to the younger generation because this is the future and they are the future. They are the people who are going to drive our nations and the world in years to come.”

“It’s what it’s all about really, we are trying to push the technology and innovation but also trying to educate the younger generation, said Sylvain Filippi. “The target is not necessarily to convert older petrolheads but to explain this technology to younger people to make their first car electric, make them want to study and work with electric vehicles and clean technologies in the future.”
