Who will be dreaming in the concrete jungle?
The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook has been home to the New York City E-Prix since 2017, with four visits and four double headers around this circuit. In those eight races Sam Bird (Jaguar TCS Racing) has stepped on to the top step of the podium three times.
The Brit's first two victories in The Big Apple came on the same weekend as he became the second driver in Formula E's history to take both legs of a double-header - his team-mate Mitch Evans became only the third driver to achieve this feat in Rome this season.
Bird has struggled so far in 2022 and his record of scoring a victory in every Formula E season to date is at risk of coming to an end. With a win in the second NYC race last season, rebounding to take victory after crashing out on Saturday - this trip to the States could be just what he needs to recapture that glory, and bring some vital points to Jaguar's Teams' title run.
The aforementioned Evans will be another one to keep an eye on, the New Zealander is on another run of form with two podiums from the last two races - taking his total to five this season, a matching stat for all of the top four title challengers.
Currently sitting pretty in fourth and only 15 points of the championship leader, Evans arrives at a circuit where he's had a touch of success with second in 2019 and was in the running for a podium last season.
The scoresheet from NYC doesn't read great for 2021 with two pointless finishes, but he can take some positives from his pace then. Evans was running behind Bird and lost out on picking up a 1-2 finish for Jaguar after he tagged the wall, damaged his suspension and then tumbled down the order.
Formerly known as New Amsterdam, it was the British who christened the city as New York after capturing it from the Dutch in the 1600s. Since Formula E has raced in the view of the iconic skyline, it's three to one for the Brits against the Dutch in all-electric street racing.
The flying Dutchman to take that victory was Robin Frijns in 2019. The Envision Racing driver hasn't stood on the top step of the podium since that race and after some difficult races scoring only 10 points in the last four rounds he has effectively fallen out of title contention, but Frijns has an opportunity to upset the apple cart.
NYC has been a good location for Envision, with the British outfit scoring four podiums and three pole positions here, and both Frijns and Nick Cassidy have had good showings in Brooklyn - the latter taking pole and picking up a hard fought second place last season.
The top two in the title race have had very different experiences in New York City. In his five seasons in Formula E, Edoardo Mortara has never scored a point here, albeit he missed two races in 2018 due to a clash with DTM, and last season saw him bowled around by the opposition.
Almost in a mirror to last season though, the ROKiT Venturi Racing driver arrives to the States in the lead of the championship, but he will be hoping to depart JFK after Round 12 with a better pair of results - something that is very possible when looking at his form in 2022.
In comparison Jean-Eric Vergne will have fond memories of racing around the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. The Frenchman wrapped up both of his Formula E titles here, including with a win in 2018 and despite being visibly frustrated with second last year, the DS TECHEETAH driver knows he can be in the fight.
Of the top four in the title run, Vergne is the only one to have not claimed a victory this season, but what is markedly different is his consistency as the two-time champion has scored points in every single round and sits ominously in second place.
It's looking like another hot race around this technical circuit in New York City. Get those predictions in for the chance to win some big prizes - play Formula E Predictor today!
