Sam Bird came home eighth in the SABIC London E-Prix Round 14, learning after the race that he had broken his hand early in the encounter.
The Jaguar TCS Racing driver hadn't qualified as he'd hoped ahead of a second race in as many days on home soil, with some 40,000 British fans soaking up the action at the E-Prix. Bird lined up 15th and had work on to get points on the board.
A Lap 1 shunt saw Bird tangled in the pack as it concertinaed around the tight Turns 1 and 2, with the Brit learning post-race that the impact had fractured his metacarpal.
Jaguar said in a statement: "Soon after the race, Sam Bird was taken to the hospital for routine checks after sustaining an injury on Lap 1 of Round 14.
"An x-ray revealed that he has a displaced left metacarpal fracture. Sam will now see a specialist as soon as possible to receive the best possible treatment.
"Sam's participation in the upcoming Seoul E-Prix on 13 & 14 August will be assessed in the coming days."
The team has Formula E race winner Norman Nato on its books as well as Frenchman Sacha Fenestraz in reserve.
