With full-time driver Robin Frijns missing the Berlin double-header, Envision Racing will take on the services of Jaguar's test and reserve driver, Joel Erikkson, for the race weekend.

Joel Eriksson was born in Sweden in 1998 and began his karting career in 2008. His karting career lasted until 2014, when he stepped up to Formula 4 for two years, before joining the F3 European Championship grid in 2016.

He drove in the F3 championship for two seasons, claiming seven wins, in the process. In 2017, the Tomelilla-born driver finished as runner-up in the championship, behind now F1 driver Lando Norris.

Eriksson then competed in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) for two seasons, starting in 2018, where he would become the second-youngest race winner in DTM. During this period, he began his Formula E journey after testing for DS Virgin Racing in the Marrakesh Rookie Test in 2018.

Erikkson, now the official Jaguar TCS Racing reserve driver, got his first taste of electric racing during the 2021 Formula E season for DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT when he replaced regular driver Nico Müller. Taking the seat for eight rounds, the Swedish driver picked up a best finish of 10th in London.

He is back behind the wheel of a Formula E car this season, as he is set to replace Robin Frijns for Envision Racing during both rounds of the Berlin E-Prix. Frijns, like multiple other Formula E drivers, is unable to race in Berlin due to his FIA World Endurance Championship commitments that same weekend.
