2015/16 champion Sebastien Buemi had a resurgence following a move to Envision Racing, helping them to the Teams' title in Season 9. A visit to the top step still eludes the Swiss driver, but could we see him take the green team to victory in Season 11?

Alongside rival Lucas di Grassi, Sebastien Buemi is one of the most successful drivers in Formula E. The Swiss driver is one of the few to have claimed the Formula E World Championship and has the most wins to his name and an outstanding number of Julius Baer Pole Positions to match.

Early Career

Starting with a successful karting campaign in the early stages of his motorsport career, Buemi moved to the German Formula BMW Championship in 2004, finishing third in his debut season - just behind another future Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel. As the points kept on coming for Buemi, so did the opportunities to work his way up the open-wheel classes.

Formula 1

Despite getting his first taste of Formula One machinery at the age of just 15 when he was given the chance to drive an Arrows F1 car, it wouldn't be until 2009 that Buemi would make his F1 debut. Buemi worked his way up to that point with a season in the F3 Euro Series in 2006 before making his GP2 debut in 2007. By 2009, his break into F1 arrived after catching the eye of Toro Rosso, who signed him up later that year, making Buemi the first Swiss F1 driver since 1995.

He continued to drive for Toro Rosso until the end of the 2011 season, when he partnered with Jean-Eric Vergne. Buemi remains connected to the Red Bull family despite not making another competitive appearance for the team.

WEC

Alongside his Formula E duties, Buemi also competes in the World Endurance Championship with Toyota and is the series’ most successful diver. He won the world championship in 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2023 and claimed first place in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 Le Mans 24 Hour races.

Formula E | Season 1 - 8

After bringing home three Teams' Championship titles for his former team Renault e.dams, Buemi moved with the e.dams squad under the new name of Nissan e.dams for its debut season in Formula E alongside Oliver Rowland. Together, the pair took the team to fourth in the teams' standings, just missing out on a podium position, while Buemi finished second behind Vergne in the drivers' championship.

Embarking on his sixth season in Formula E, Buemi once again partnered with Rowland. After playing catch-up with development in the opening rounds, he launched his points-scoring campaign with a third-place finish in Mexico City. Alongside Rowland's performance, the Swiss driver's three podium finishes in the six-race season finale in Berlin helped secure Nissan e.dams second place in the Teams' Championship.

Buemi's best of fifth in Rome was all he had to show for his lowest points score in Formula E to date in a disappointing Season 7. He fared better in Season 8, with the field ever more compressed. The Swiss strode to 15th in the running and a 30-point haul.

Formula E | Season 9 - 11

Buemi joined Envision Racing for Season 9, which saw him return to the podium in the season's penultimate race with a third in London. His consistency throughout the season saw him finish sixth in the standings as Envision pipped Jaguar TCS Racing to claim their first Teams’ Championship.

Season 10 saw Buemi stay with the British outfit. While he ended the year 11th in the order, he bookended the year with two visits to the podium in Mexico City and London.

Ending the year with a trip to the podium and a fourth-place finish, one of Formula E's most experienced drivers continues with Envision into the GEN3 Evo era as he chases down a return to the winner's circle in Season 11.
