Announced ahead of the Monaco E-Prix taking place on Saturday 3rd May and Sunday 4th May 2025 at the famed Monaco Street Circuit, the all-electric FIA championship has pledged its support to SheCanHeCan and its Monarègles project which aims to make Monaco the world’s first period-equal country by addressing period inequality, breaking taboos, and promoting education about menstruation.
This goal is a bold and globally relevant ambition, that sets a precedent for change beyond borders. While Monaco is often seen as a symbol of affluence, thousands of workers and students commute into the principality daily, and many still face challenges around access to menstrual products and education. By supporting SheCanHeCan in this mission, Formula E is using its platform to raise awareness of a global issue from a city in the spotlight.
The Better Futures Fund is a cornerstone of Formula E’s Formula Equity social impact strategy, which is dedicated to addressing social inequalities and fostering diverse communities in host cities worldwide. In Season 11, a chosen charity in every race market will receive a €25,000 charitable donation, bringing the fund total to €250,000 across 10 race markets —a significant increase in commitment from last season’s €100,000.
With Formula E’s donation, SheCanHeCan will be empowered to expand its reach and support to over 400 young people and an additional 1000 through promotional content.
The funding will also enable SheCanHeCan to deliver its school workshops to all Year 8 students - both boys and girls - across Monaco throughout the next academic year.
The funding from Formula E will specifically be used to:
- Increase the distribution of free period products across Monaco, including in public institutions, schools, and workplaces.
- Develop and expand education programs that promote menstrual health awareness and challenge stigma.
- Encourage gender inclusivity by fostering open discussions about menstrual health in sports, schools, and workplaces.
- Introduce organic period product dispensers to ensure long-term accessibility and sustainability beyond race weekend.
Launched in 2022, SheCanHeCan’s Monarègles project works to ensure that menstruation is never a barrier to education, workplace participation, or daily life. The initiative focuses on:
- Expanding Access: Increasing the availability of free organic period products in public spaces, schools, and workplaces.
- Education and Awareness: Implementing programs designed to challenge and change the stigma surrounding menstruation.
- Advocacy for Policy Change: Working to embed period equity into social and workplace standards through impactful advocacy.
Formula E's partnership with SheCanHeCan exemplifies its commitment to gender equality while aligning with its broader sustainability and social inclusion goals.
A key part of Formula E’s long-term strategy is to promote diversity and equality in motorsport, with a continued focus on identifying and removing the structural barriers that limit women’s participation.
Formula E continues to make bold strides toward a more inclusive future for motorsport - actively working to increase female representation through initiatives like FIA Girls On Track, its partnership with More Than Equal, and the return of the all-women’s test for Season 12, the series is continuing to pave the way for women in motorsport.
Engagement during Race Week:
During the Monaco E-Prix, SheCanHeCan will integrate with Formula E's through a race of impactful initiatives, including:
- FIA Girls On Track Integration: SheCanHeCan Founder Vibeke Thomsen will deliver a career talk to young women attending the event, with free organic period products available for all participants.
- Driving Change for Gender Equality Event: A dedicated event at the private cars collection of HSH the Prince of Monaco for local school students. Speakers will address leadership, careers in motorsport, and breaking the stigma surrounding female health.
- On-Site Support: Formula E-managed bathrooms at the Monaco E-Prix will provide free organic period products for all staff.
Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability, Formula E said: “At Formula E, sustainability extends beyond environmental impact – it’s also about creating fairer, more inclusive societies. Our support of SheCanHeCan through the Better Futures Fund reflects our deep commitment to gender equality, education, and social progress. By partnering with an organisation that is leading the charge in period equity, we’re using our global platform to break taboos, raise awareness, and drive lasting change. Together, we are proud to set a powerful example for communities around the world in Monaco.””
Vibeke Thomsen, Founder & Director said: "The financial support from Formula E will enable SheCanHeCan to profoundly transform the conversation around periods in high-performance sports, while rendering visible female athletes and creating inclusive spaces for the communities in Formula E host cities.
“Offering amenities such as organic period products (tampons and pads) and facilitating the conversation around periods will help reduce stigma and will contribute to alleviate the financial and emotional burden of people on their periods.
“With the support of Formula E, we aspire to make Monaco the first period equal country in the world, providing a more inclusive environment for all team members and improving our community’s quality of life."
