With Shakedown cancelled due to a downpour, Free Practice 1 was the first chance for our grid to explore the Homestead Miami circuit in their GEN3 Evo machines ahead of race day tomorrow. It was Nick Cassidy who went quickest of the 22 drivers, lapping this 3.551km circuit in a time of 1m23.785s.

Antonio Felix da Costa finished second in the session for TAG Heuer Porsche, with NEOM McLaren’s Taylor Barnard in third. The 20-year-old ‘rookie’ currently sits second in the standings after achieving the Julius Baer Pole Position in Jeddah, as well as two podiums. He has put himself firmly in the record books, but can he become the youngest Formula E race winner tomorrow? Let’s wait and see.
Mitch Evans crossed the chequered flag in fourth, with Pascal Wehrlein fifth. The two Porsche drivers had a near miss during the 40 minute session, with a misunderstanding between the two almost resulting in contact.
As it happened…
The sun was shining, but drivers were still finding pockets of water after a huge downpour hours earlier cancelled the shakedown.
PREVIEW: Formula E returns to Miami for inaugural Homestead race for Round 5 of Season 11
Both Andrettis were top of the timesheets early on, with Dennis leading Mueller in their new Miami blue livery. However, as drivers got more comfortable with the new circuit the timing tower had a reshuffle with Mitch Evans being the first driver to break into the 1m25s. Lola Yamaha ABT’s Lucas di Grassi went flying soon after to shave 1.3s off Evan’s time, as the Season 3 champion looks to get his first points of Season 11 on the board this weekend.
There was a close call between both TAG Heuer Porsche drivers, as Pascal Wehrlein tried a pass on teammate Antonio Felix da Costa but had the door shut on him. It appeared to be a simple misunderstanding, but could have been a costly mistake.
Oliver Rowland was exploring the limits of the circuit, going off the and through the grass during one of his 350 kwh laps. His teammate, Norman Nato, went quickest soon after but dropped down the times as the session continued.

Nick Cassidy looked happy around the circuit, banking the fastest lap of the session with the fastest final two sectors too. After an awesome comeback drive in Jeddah to get his first points of the season, the Jaguar driver will hope this pace will convert to tomorrow and race day.
Sebastien Buemi had a tough FP1, labelling his Envision Racing car as “undriveable” and ending the day last.
