TAG Heuer Porsche power was back on top, with Antonio Felix da Costa going quickest of the first Free Practice session in Mexico City with an impressive 1m10.855s. His lap time was the quickest of the 350kwh times, with his teammate Pascal Wehrlein the best 300 kwh time.
NEOM McLaren’s Taylor Barnard popped into second, fresh from his podium result in São Paulo, with Nissan’s Oliver Rowland into third. Wehrlein finished the session in fourth, with Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans in fifth.
Lola Yamaha ABT’s Lucas di Grassi went sixth with an impressive lap, with Norman Nato (Nissan) seventh, Sebastien Buemi (Envision Racing) eighth, Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing) in ninth and Stoffel Vandoorne rounding out the top 10 for Maserati MSG Racing.
As it happened…
The 40 minute session got underway at 17:00 local time, as the teams got their first bits of data for this Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in the GEN3 Evo era.

10 minutes into the session it was an Andretti 1-2, with Mueller on top of his teammate Jake Dennis who won here in Season 9. All eyes will be on the Porsche powertrain cars – Porsche, Andretti and CUPRA KIRO – as they have performed very well here in the past and won the last two races here.
Soon São Paulo-winner Mitch Evans was quickest soon after, and stayed there for most of the session. However, he was dethroned over halfway into the session by Lola Yamaha ABT’s Lucas di Grassi who secured a lap time of 1m11.417s. The Brazilian has won here on two occasions, and secured pole position and a podium here in Season 9 when he was driving for Mahindra Racing.

Before going top of the times, di Grassi was pushing his car to the limits and exploring all the circuit by going on the grass after the exit of Turn 1. For Envision Racing’s Robin Frijns and Nissan’s Norman Nato, they found the escape route to do a spin round after going wide at Turn 1.
With six minutes left on the clock, Evans found himself at the top of the timesheets again but was soon displaced by both Porsches, with Pascal Wehrlein going quickest before Antonio Felix da Costa went three-tenths faster and was the first to break into the 1m10s.
The time was unbeatable in the end, despite Evans setting a purple first sector in his final lap but was forced to finish in fifth. There was also a very close call for the CUPRA KIRO of David Beckmann, who lost the rear end of his new-liveried car in the final moments of the lap after coming out of the stadium section.
