London winner Wehrlein: 'job only 50% done'

Pascal Wehrlein is now on 180 points as we head into the finale on Sunday.

TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein managed his third win of the season in London, standing on the top step of the podium and positioning himself first of the championship order with one race left to go.

Wehrlein managed to pass Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) during the race and hold him back during both ATTACK MODE activations in tense scenes. Evans, who earned the Julius Baer Pole Position but was down on energy to the Porsche of Wehrlein in the race, was forced to settle for second.

“Tomorrow is as important as today was. It's only 50% done,” Wehrlein said post-race. “The Jaguars were a bit quicker in qualifying than us, so a bit of work for us there. But our race pace looked very strong. I think tomorrow will be super tight again.”

The German was third in the standings before the race, but due to Evans’ second place and Nick Cassidy only managing a seventh place finish, he has leapt forward to the top of the championship table.

Over the race, there was plenty of drama, clashes and penalties delivered.

“I saw all the chaos behind,” the race winner added. “So many times I just heard cars colliding, so I guess it was a chaotic race!”

Wehrlein started in third, but had to give up position quickly after Andretti’s Norman Nato went full send at the start of the race to snap up the place.

“It was a shame that I lost out at the start to Norman. That was not ideal. But, the plan was just to save a bit of energy. Make the moves at the right time, and then bring it home. It got a bit close in the end, with the Safety Car and Full Course Yellow but in the end it was fine.”
