The Japanese automotive giant launched a new EV concept in London, and reiterated its pledge to go all-electric by the end of the decade.
'There's no turning back'
"There's no turning back now," said Nissan President and CEO Makoto Uchida. "The world needs to move on from combustion engines.
Referring back to the UK's policy shift last week - which saw a delay to the ban on new ICE vehicles from 2030 to 2035 - at the launch of the Concept 20-23 in Paddington, London, Uchida added: "[We] have a responsiblity to be part of the solution and the ecosystem.
“EVs powered by renewables are key to us achieving carbon neutrality, which is central to our Ambition 2030 vision. Nissan will make the switch to full electric by 2030 in Europe – we believe it is the right thing to do for our business, our customers and for the planet."
All-electric
Nissan will launch 19 fully electric models alongside eight hybrids by 2023, with plans to go cobalt-free and reduce its battery costs by up to 65% by 2028. The company is also working on its tech and a battery that can charge in two-thirds the time of current packs.
