He might be 24 points behind Avalanche Andretti’s Jake Dennis in the Championship standings, but Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy is still very much in with a shot of his first Formula E title this weekend.
Cassidy has won on three occasions as well as having stood on the podium seven times this season, with the Envision pilot also having his fair share of leading the Drivers’ World Championship over the last few months.
In a car that looks strong this weekend - with a Jaguar TCS Racing powertrain onboard - Cassidy is certainly going to go for gold when it comes to trophies this weekend.
“There’s lots more emphasis on trying to win, but as a racing driver we want to win anyway, so it's all good,” Cassidy said in London on Friday. “I think I'm strong here. We're gonna be good.
“I think TAG Heuer Porsche have been better than us in the races this year, a little bit,” he continued when analysing his rivals this weekend. Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche is on 146 points in fourth, with Mitch Evans in his Jaguar lining up in third after his Rome win on 151 points. Cassidy is in second on 171 with Dennis 24 points ahead in first. For the Brit, whose Andretti is powered by Porsche, looks to be the favourite here in London, but never say never in Formula E.
“We've been a bit stronger [than Porsche] in qualifying but I don't think that the energy has been cut enough for this sort of circuit.
“Obviously if we can win the Drivers’ World Championship, that's the biggest thing. The Teams’ Championship would be nice, but the marketing is always around the Drivers’ Champion that’s for sure.”
Envision Racing are currently top on 253 points thanks to the work of Cassidy and teammate Sebastien Buemi, with Porsche just 14 points behind.
As for the ExCel circuit this weekend, Cassidy labelled the indoor-outdoor track as “unique”.
“I would say the preparation changes are the same old stuff, but obviously if the weather is variable, then that's gonna be more interesting,” he added.
