Labelled as the 'King of Jakarta', Guenther topped every timed session, achieved back-to-back Julius Baer Pole Positions, secured third place in Round 10, and now the all-important win in Round 11. It's a significant moment for the Maserati team, who joined Formula E for the new GEN3 era, as it's their first world championship single-seater win since Juan-Manuel Fangio's legendary win at the Nurburgring in 1957.
"A very proud moment, and I am over the moon with this victory," Guenther stated after his win. "Yesterday was great with another podium and still good progress over the past few races. It's fantastic. Taking my first win here [with Maserati] in Jakarta is just outstanding, and I'm so happy."
Finishing first also makes the 25-year-old German the only driver to win from pole in the past 14 races. Yesterday he marked his first-ever time as a polesitter in the all-electric championship, waiting for 60 races to tick off that accomplishment only to go and do the same for today's race, too. This is his fourth career victory, with his last win in New York in July 2021; quite the wait.
"I felt really good from FP1 onwards," he added. "I knew the package was working here. It was just about executing it and keeping tuning in the right direction. We always took the right decisions this weekend. Yesterday, we didn't have enough. Today we had, and it's just amazing.
"In Formula E, you always need to stay with all feet on the ground; it's like life in general. It can change so quickly. I'm just really enjoying this moment here. We have shown such good progress so far this season. We got momentum a few races ago, and now to win here with two pole positions is a great feeling.
"I know that there will be tracks that suit us more and tracks that suit us less; we just always try to maximise our package. We've been doing that the past few races, and I'm very proud."
It's the third podium appearance for Guenther this season after a breakthrough third place came his way in front of his home crowd in Berlin. His podium at the German Tempelhof Airport for Round 7 also marked his first points of the season and showed how quickly you can go from zero to hero in this championship.
