From COP26 to NYC and London - the Formula E art cars from Season 8

Season 8 has seen the Gen2 car receive a fresh lick of paint as our all-electric single seater has become a canvas for a selection of events.

Below are a trio of special edition liveries that have graced the Gen2 showcar and the inspiration behind.

COP26

The first was back in November 2021 when Formula E took centre stage at COP26, representing elite sport at the UN climate change summit in Glasgow, Scotland. On the final night we unveiled a striking livery for the planet's favourite sport.

The special edition car tells a story across the body of the Gen2 machine, as the livery represents the change in the natural ecosystem. At the nose of the car there are drought conditions and a cracked baron landscape. However, as always with Formula E, there's a message of hope and optimism, as the livery flows down the car you see the landscape restoring itself, transforming into flourishing rain forests and a thriving ocean.

London

Next up was a graffiti artist taking to the Gen2 car. Mr Cenz, whose distinctive, surrealist, photorealism style of graffiti artwork has been making eye-catching statements in public spaces in east London since the 1990s, and he was tasked with applying his creative skills directly to our Formula E race car.

“Growing up in London, I was inspired by the graffiti artwork coming out of the New York hip-hop scene,” said Mr Cenz. “Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to work on projects all over the world, but nothing comes close to creating art in east London. It will always be close to my heart, I’ve painted lots of murals in the area over the years, so working with Formula E to celebrate the return of the London E-Prix has been a huge passion project for me.”

New York City

In partnership with Allianz and New York City's Museum of Modern Art, the Gen2 car became a rolling gallery ahead of the race in the Big Apple.

Worthy of a place in MoMA, the car evoked the pop art stylings famed by iconic artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. The eye-catching design showcased evocative imagery of New York City and Formula E's home in Brooklyn through a comic-book and abstract filter to create a modern picture of the city.
