Mahindra Racing's Edoardo Mortara put himself on the Julius Baer Pole Position for the fourth time this season, equalling the all-time Formula E record for most poles in a single campaign.

Edoardo Mortara managed his fourth Julius Baer Pole Position of the 2025/26 season, and will start today’s 2026 TDK Tokyo E-Prix from the P1 slot for Mahindra Racing. Mortara lost the Duel final yesterday to Jake Dennis (Andretti) but had his redemption today whilst battling Antonio Felix da Costa (Jaguar TCS Racing) in the Final, with Mahindra never taking four poles in a single Formula E season.

The grid qualified on a drying track, with a torrential thunderstorm arriving earlier in the day which caused Free Practice 3 to be cancelled.

Mortara’s Pole Position also brings to an end Porsche powertrains’ run of seven straight poles.

Final

Edoardo Mortara took on Antonio Felix da Costa in the Final Duel, with Da Costa seeking his first pole of the GEN3 era. For Mortara, he was looking for a fourth pole of the season which neither he or Mahindra have ever managed in Formula E. Mortara’s pole also ties him with Jean-Eric Vergne (Citroën Racing) for the most in a season, who also managed four pole positions across the 2017/18 season.

Semi Final

The first Semi Duel was Taylor Barnard versus Antonio Felix da Costa, with the Jaguar TCS Racing driver getting the better time. Da Costa has only won one of his five Semi Final Duels this season, but that stat has now changed. DS PENSKE are also the only team to have not finished on the podium this season.

Next was Dan Ticktum and Edoardo Mortara, with both drivers pushing their cars to the absolute limit. Only one could get into the Final, and it was Mahindra’s Mortara who had reached the semi-finals for the eighth time in 15 races this season.

Quarter Finals

First up was Taylor Barnard, who took on championship leader Mitch Evans. Despite his two wins and five podiums so far this season, Evans has still not locked in a pole position and wasn't able to change that today as Taylor Barnard progressed through.

His teammate Antonio Felix da Costa was able to, as he went against Nissan’s Norman Nato for a slot in the semis and got his Jaguar through.

Dan Ticktum was flying on his lap, almost clipping the walls, but was almost half a second quicker than Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries at the chequered flag. The CUPRA KIRO driver loves this track, and especially after securing the victory on the last lap last night.

The final Quarter Final was Edoardo Mortara against reigning World Champion Oliver Rowland. Unfortunately, the battle was over before it began when Rowland made a mistake and ran into the run off at the start of his sole lap. Therefore Mortara was the man who went through, 1.2s quicker in his Mahindra.

Group A

Antonio Felix da Costa went top of his group, followed by his Jaguar teammate Mitch Evans. He was joined in the Duels by Taylor Barnard and Norman Nato. The track was rapidly drying, with the later laps being the best of the group with only 0.7s separating the top nine.

Nico Müller made a few mistakes in his Porsche, running wide at Turn 16 and as a result just missed out on the next stage of qualifying. Yesterday’s pole sitter, Jake Dennis (Andretti) also failed to make it through and could only manage ninth at the end of the session.

Group B

Edoardo Mortara was quickest of the second group, with his teammate Nyck de Vries slotting into second for Mahindra. Yesterday’s race winner Dan Ticktum managed to qualify in third, with Oliver Rowland getting the final slot – pushing both Nissans into the Duels at their home race.

After a DNF on Saturday, championship contender Pascal Wehrlein had a mechanical issue which impacted his run and could only manage sixth.
