In what could prove to be a crucial day in the 2025/26 championship fight, Pascal Wehrlein came out on top, closing the gap at the top of the standings to just three points.

With only five rounds remaining, we're now well and truly in the business end of the 2025/26 championship fight. Three points separate championship leader Mitch Evans from today's race winner, Pascal Wehrlein.

Together in the championship, and together on the road. The pair started the race alongside each other after facing off in the Final of qualifying, and from start to finish Wehrlein looked cool, calm and collected at the head of the pack - despite the wet conditions throwing everyone's plans to the wind.

"The goal was to stay somewhere in the front because rain was expected," he explained. "We just didn't know when it would hit the race, whether it would be right from the beginning or kind of mid-race. We tried to stay efficiently at the front and not lose too many positions trying to bank energy with slipstream. It worked out perfectly.

"The PIT BOOST strategy was really nice and ATTACK MODE timing was really good, and I could just do my own race with good pace, and when I lost one or two positions I was immediately fighting back, and that was crucial today."

Th 28 points gained today by Wehrlein for pole position and the race win also represent a return to form for the Porsche driver, who failed to score points in the last three rounds. Luckily for him, Evans, Mortara and Rowland ( three other protagonists in the championship battle) were also unlucky in Sanya, with none of them adding to their points tally.

But now, with only five rounds remaining, every point is crucial and one good or bad result can be the difference between first and fourth in the standings.

"Very important day," Wehrlein reaffirmed. "All remaining five races now are super important. I feel like the last couple of races they were a bit undeserved and unlucky. So I just wanted to bounce back as quickly as we can and get another boost into the team, into our energy, and we keep fighting until the very end.

"Every race it's all or nothing, we want to win and collect championships."
