Born in Iserlohn, Germany, David Beckmann cut his teeth in karting with early success at just 12 years old when he won the DMV Kart Championship in his home country and the European Bridgestone Cup in 2012. The following year he took top honours in the German Junior Kart Championship, beating Mick Schumacher.

Single-seaters would come calling in 2015 as he progressed to Formula 4, taking the rookie championship in ADAC Formula 4 with fifth overall in the standings and fourth in Italian F4.

Beckmann graduated to European Formula 3 in 2016, where he stayed for two seasons and picked up two podium finishes. In 2018, the young German shifted to the GP3 series where he ended the hotly contested championship in fifth, picking up three wins in his rookie season. A return to the FIA Formula 3 championship saw Beckmann put in some consistent finishes to finish in 2020, ending the year in sixth with five visits to the podium.

From 2021, Beckmann competed in FIA Formula 2 and made his first in-roads into all-electric racing, joining the Avalanche Andretti outfit as their test and reserve driver.

In 2022 and the dawn of the GEN3 era, Beckmann joined the TAG Heuer Porsche driver as the official test and reserve driver, a role he would split with the factory Porsche squad and customer team Andretti.

The German was selected by Porsche for the official Rookie Test in Berlin, putting in some solid times to end the one-day test with the ninth-best time in the overall ranking.

After that impressive showing, Beckmann will step up for Avalanche Andretti at the 2023 Jakarta E-Prix in place of Andre Lotterer for the double-header.
