Hong Kong government welcomes Formula E

All-electric race to showcase city as events capital of Asia

Hong Kong government welcomes Formula E

The government of Hong Kong has extended a warm welcome to the FIA Formula E Championship ahead of the all-electric city street racing series starting its third season on the harbourfront circuit this weekend.

“We are very honoured and excited that the Formula E HKT Hong Kong ePrix will be staged in Hong Kong for the first time and also as the first stop of the Championship’s third season,” read the statement. “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region fully supports the introduction of this first-of-its-kind international motorsports event to our city. The ePrix will attract a broad demographic of local residents and non-local visitors to visit and enjoy our prominent waterfront location.

“The worldwide broadcast of the race through TV and social media will help showcase our Victoria Harbour to the world, enriching our city’s tourism appeal and reinforcing our position as an events capital of Asia. At the same time, the race will help promote the use of e-vehicles as well as clean and sustainable energy, which is taking a firm root in Hong Kong.

Not only will the ePrix become another signature event in Hong Kong, it will be a solid testimony to our capability in hosting premier international motorsports events. In this regard, the Government has been making tremendous efforts to facilitate the staging of the race. While we are excited to have a street circuit situated right in the heart of our city, winding its way around some of the most iconic landmarks, certain road sections need to be modified to ensure the circuit’s compliance with safety standards.

“It is no easy task for the Government to deliver the road works in the busiest district of Hong Kong within a tight time frame of less than a year. Yet with the concerted efforts of all parties, including various Government departments and related organisations which are fully committed to provide the highest standard of municipal services during the race days, we are confident that the race will be a great success.

The HKT Hong Kong ePrix starts at 4pm local time on October 9. To find out where you can view it in your region, click here fiaformulae.com/en/watch/ways-to-watch
