Formula E was honoured to have one of the most famous names in Uruguayan media attend our last race in Punta del Este.
As well as being a huge, and knowledgeable, motor racing fan, Nando Parrado is known worldwide as being one of the survivors of the air crash that left a rugby team trapped in the Andes. It was a best-selling book and was made into the film Alive! (Ethan Hawke played Parrado).
Having seen the world’s first all-electric single-seater championship in action for the first time, Parrado was impressed.
“I’m very pleasantly surprised,” he said. “It’s much more than want I thought it was going to be. It’s fantastic for our country. To be able to show images of Uruguay all over the world. Having all the Uruguayans and all the people from Argentina and Brazil come here is fantastic.
“I think the event has the basis to be a classic – an iconic race in the motor racing scene of South America. I think the quality of the drivers, the paddock, the teams that Formula E brings every country should be proud to have.”
