Nico Prost to leave Renault e.dams after New York finale

After four seasons with the French team, Prost set to part ways with Renault e.dams

Nico Prost to leave Renault e.dams after New York finale

After 42 race starts in the ABB FIA Formula E Championship since the inaugural race in Beijing 2014, Nico Prost will part ways with Renault e.dams after the season four double-header finale in New York City on 14 and 15 July.

“I am not only happy to have been with Renault e.dams these past four seasons, I am also thrilled to have been present at the very beginning of one of the most innovative motor racing championships of all time," said Prost, just days after a thrilling showdown in the Swiss city of Zurich. There are so many great memories, like my three race wins and the three Team titles.

Of his 42 race starts, the Frenchman made it into the points a total of 34 times, with a win in both London races in Season 2 (2016), as well as victory in the 2015 race in Miami. Racing alongside former champion Sebastien Buemi, the two drivers have remained with the Renault e.dams team since day one. “Nicolas has been one of the pillars at Renault e.dams since its creation. With Sébastien Buemi, they formed a complementary duo of drivers and both have been very involved in the collective performance," said team owner Jean-Paul Driot. "We have had some great times together, especially the three Team titles that have rewarded the efforts of both of them. The time has come to turn the page, after an often frustrating season 4 and at the dawn of a new chapter in the history of Formula E. We all wish Nicolas great success in his future endeavours.”

Now ten rounds into his fourth season in the series, Prost is ranked 16th in the championship standings after a difficult few months. "Of course, I regret season 4 hasn’t gone as well and we believe that it is best that we go our separate ways," he admitted. "I wish e.dams all the luck in the world and I am busy working on my new programme that I hope to announce soon."

The son of four-time Formula One world champion and former Renault e.dams team director Alain Prost, the 36-year old driver failed to finish in the Zurich race due to technical issues. "I don't know exactly but it looks like a battery problem...basically, the car started to shut down and I had no brakes and I couldn't restart the car," he explained after the race.
