Mexican racing legend Adrian Fernandez will be the Grand Marshal for next month’s inaugural Mexico City ePrix.
The Mexican, who was a two-times podium finisher in the Le Mans 24 Hours and won 11 races in an 11-year Champ Car and IndyCar career, will perform ceremonial duties at the first all-electric single-seater race to take place in his homeland.
He said: ‘‘It’s a great honour for me to be the Grand Marshal for the Mexico City ePrix. The FIA Formula E Championship is changing the way people around the world view motorsport, with its commitment to the environment and technological development whilst maintaining a high level of competition. It will be a very special day for the fans and we will all be supporting Salvador Duran, our Mexican driver.’’
Ramon Osorio, Director of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, said: ‘‘Talking about motorsports in Mexico is talking about Adrian Fernandez. Making him the Grand Marshal is a tribute to a great driver and a great human being, who has dedicated his life to this amazing sport. I’m sure Mexican fans will be very happy with his presence.’’
