Prost leads the way in second practice

Prost leads the way in second practice

Nico Prost continued Renault e.dams strong form ahead of the Julius Baer Punta del Este ePrix by setting the pace in second practice.

The Frenchman didn’t manage to beat the time set by team-mate Sebastien Buemi in free practice one, but his lap of 1:15.405s was still enough to head the times. Buemi’s chances were affected by a sizeable accident in the opening part of the session. After riding one of the ‘sausage kerbs’ at the fast chicane, his car was pitched into the wall, breaking the front wing and left-front suspension.

When he returned to the track in his second car he hit traffic on his best lap, which meant he was ‘only’ third fastest. Sandwiched in between the Renaults was Abt Schaeffler driver Lucas di Grassi, who was just 0.1s down on Prost.

His team-mate Daniel Abt had an accident too, losing the rear end on the way into the final chicane, and spinning into the wall, taking off the rear wing in the process. He ended up back in 12th.

Jerome D’Ambrosio showed Dragon Racing could be a factor by going fourth fastest, while Robin Frijns again starred for Andretti and put the season one-tech car in fifth, just four tenths off Prost’s best. Another season one runner, Antonio Felix da Costa, was sixth fastest for Aguri.

It was a tough session for Mahindra, who finished up in 17th and 18th places with newcomer Oliver Rowland 0.5s down on his team-mate in last place.
