Formula E lands in Florida this weekend for a historic first at Homestead-Miami Speedway. With three American teams chasing home glory and just five drivers on the grid having previously raced in the Sunshine State, it is all to play for.

Previous success in Miami

It's been nearly a decade since Formula E's first and only race in Miami, and fittingly, it remains the only time we've seen an all-American success story when Scott Speed clinched a podium for Andretti. That same weekend, familiar names like Antonio Felix da Costa, Sam Bird, and Lucas di Grassi would be found inside the top 10, while Sebastien Buemi struggled to 18th and Jean-Eric Vergne saw a potential win slip away after a hit to the rear of his then-red Andretti car derailed his race from pole.

Fast forward to Season 11: Formula E has since toured New York, Portland, Long Beach, and Biscayne Bay, producing eight different winners. Among them, both da Costa and Bird have each claimed three victories on American Soil—a record that speaks to their comfort racing in the Stateside. But this time, the championship arrives at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a venue more closely associated with NASCAR and oval racing. Still, it's a homecoming of sorts—not just for Andretti, but also for DS PENSKE and CUPRA KIRO, who all fly the American flag. The question remains: can one of them turn this into a true American dream this weekend?

A quick recap of the opening round

Four rounds into Season 11, the championship has already delivered its fair share of twists. Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein looked set for a strong opener in São Paulo after securing pole, only for his race to unravel dramatically when contact sent his TAG Heuer Porsche flipping into the barriers. So far, Mexico remains his only podium—where he shared the steps with teammate da Costa, who's currently third in the standings.

Meanwhile, Mitch Evans delivered one of the drives of the season with a stunning last-to-first win in Brazil. But that remains Jaguar TCS Racing's only silverware, as teammate Nick Cassidy has managed just ten points. On the rise, however, is Taylor Barnard, who's quickly silenced any doubters. With three podiums in four rounds, the McLaren rookie is proving himself a key asset in his debut season.

But perhaps the most consistent name on the grid so far is Oliver Rowland. Quietly dominant, the Nissan driver has quietly pieced together two wins and a podium, showing sharp racecraft on his continued success with the Japanese team. Sitting atop the standings with 68 points, he's in control…for now. With just 17 points separating the two British contenders, Miami could be where the pecking order starts to settle.

The American teams' chances

As Formula E returns to Miami, all eyes are on the home teams—Andretti, DS PENSKE, and CUPRA KIRO—each looking to capitalize on the home advantage.

Andretti has endured a mixed start to the season, with four DNFs, and just 27 points between reigning champion Jake Dennis and new teammate Nico Mueller. Still, Dennis remains the team's standout, banking two fourth-place finishes and keeping Andretti in eighth overall. He's no stranger to U.S. success either, finishing second in Portland last year en route to the title.

Since joining in Season 7, Dennis has scored 568 of Andretti's 728 points, a remarkable stat that underscores his value. While Mueller continues to find his feet, Dennis remains their best shot at Miami glory.

DS PENSKE may just be the strongest of the trio. The pairing of Maximilian Guenther and Jean-Eric Vergne brings both speed and experience. Guenther has already claimed a win in Jeddah, and Vergne has been a consistent top-10 presence. The Frenchman also achieved pole last time we raced in Miami, and was in contention for victory before contact ended his day. If anyone can deliver a home win, it's this duo.

Meanwhile, CUPRA KIRO has faced a tougher start to the season. But with the switch to Porsche power, there's renewed hope. Dan Ticktum's eighth-place finish stands as their best result so far, while rookie David Beckmann is still finding his rhythm. With more performance in the car, this could be the weekend they start turning heads with their Marvel Thunderbolts* livery.

With three winners from the first four rounds, unpredictability remains Formula E's calling card. Miami could prove pivotal—for those chasing momentum and for teams desperate to course-correct. One thing's for sure: there's no room for error. The race for glory is wide open.
