Formula E announces Max Adkins as new Chief Financial Officer

Formula E has today announced the appointment of Max Adkins to the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective 13 January 2025. After nearly 10 years in the role, Mike Papadimitriou will leave the position in February to ensure a smooth transition, having played a key role in the growth of the series, almost since its inception.

Adkins joins the global all-electric racing series after more than three years as Chief Financial Officer at Virgin Media Ireland. He previously spent seven years gaining extensive experience with Liberty Global from 2014 to 2021, spanning roles including Director of Corporate Finance and latterly Vice President of Investor Relations. Earlier this year Liberty Global increased its stake of Formula E to become the majority shareholder with 65% control.

Mike Papadimitriou will leave his role having joined the innovative racing series from Discovery back in 2015, shortly after its first race in September 2014. He has been critical in the transformational growth of the series that to date has delivered 134 races in 24 separate countries, growing its global fanbase to 374 million and maintaining its position as the fastest growing motorsport on the planet.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Max Adkins to Formula E during one of the most exciting periods in our history. Maintaining our position as not only the fastest growing motorsport on the planet, but the number one ESG sport in the world, we continue to take the series to new heights and maximise its potential for our fans and partners around the world. Max is an exceptional talent and his role will be integral in the planning and delivery of our long-term strategy as we look to build on the strong momentum from the last few seasons.

“I also want to thank Mike for his personal support to me and his enormous contribution to the series, supporting its growth and commercial development for nearly a decade. He can take huge pride in what the championship has achieved and is and always will be an important part of the Formula E story.”

Max Adkins, said: “I am thrilled to start at Formula E and continue to build my career within the Liberty Global family. Watching from afar it has been a series I have known and admired for a while, so am delighted to join as it continues to make waves in global sport. Not only does it deliver incredible wheel-to-wheel racing for its fans, but together with its teams and partners, offers huge value in advancing technology, EV development and sustainable solutions.”

Mike Papadimitriou, Chief Financial Officer, Formula E said: "I am incredibly proud and privileged to have been part of the Formula E journey over the last decade. The sport today is delivering on the grand ambitions that were set in place right at its inception.

"To think that, after over 130 races, we've amassed almost 400m fans from nothing is a great achievement with everyone, past and present, having played their part. I leave the series in the more-than-capable hands of Max and am confident that with Jeff's bold leadership and our superb management team the series will go from strength to strength."
