Formula E launches 'Driving Force' education programme in Monaco

Formula E launches its new sustainability education programme, Driving Force, at the International School of Monaco. The initiative builds on sustainability and community engagement activations delivered in alignment to the 2025 Monaco E-Prix.

Formula E has today announced that the International School of Monaco will be the first school to adopt its international sustainability education programme, Driving Force.

After the programme was initially unveiled by Formula E in June earlier this year, today will be the first time it is launched within a school to educate children around key environmental and societal topics such as air pollution, renewable energy, circular economy, and diversity, equity and inclusion.

The International School of Monaco will use the programme in classrooms alongside wider community engagement activities aligned to the 2025 Monaco E-Prix, with 54 Year 6 pupils aged between 10 and 11 years old being able to regularly benefit from the sustainability-focused modules.

Formula E’s relationship with the school was fostered through existing partnerships within Monaco, including the Automobile Club of Monaco and Prince Albert of Monaco II Foundation.

This follows an existing focus on sustainability within the school’s curriculum, where students have already been learning about key topics such as renewable energy, with a vision to develop an understanding of each pupil’s role in raising awareness and effecting change in the school community by taking action.

The launch of the programme in the school is marked by an event hosted at the school, where students will learn more about Formula E’s sustainability strategy and take part in collaborative activities highlighting the importance of inclusion and collaboration when tackling large issues such as climate change or inequality. Following this, students will complete the Driving Force modules at relevant points in the curriculum in the run up to the 2025 Monaco E-Prix in May.

The programme builds on the all-electric series’ world-leading sustainability criteria, including being the world’s first net zero carbon sport, since inception in line with the 2020 definitions.

Designed for local communities and educational organisations within host cities, the new programme will be used by children for independent learning, educational groups and teachers, supplemented by in-person workshops and activations in Formula E’s host cities aligned to the race calendar.

Driving Force approaches sustainability issues in an optimistic and engaging manner to encourage children to feel positive and empowered about their ability to engage with sustainable themes and create a positive impact themselves during a time of rising eco-anxiety amongst young people and their parents.

Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability, Formula E, said:

“We’re delighted to launch the first modules of Driving Force alongside the International School of Monaco. It is a perfect alignment, since not only is Monaco the spiritual home of motorsport, but as a Principality it is taking ambitious steps to be more sustainable. The children who are partaking in the Driving Force programme will be able to understand and learn more about the planet, ways in which they can better care for the environment and social issues too, laying the foundations for a more sustainable future.”
