In the final year of the GEN3 machine, we experienced some unforgettable moments. From last-lap overtakes for the win, dominant displays and a tense championship battle that went down to the final race, relive all the drama with our look back over Season 10.

Formula E Championship Journalist Katy Fairman shares the biggest stories from our blockbuster return to Tempelhof and the special Shanghai weekend as we once again raced in China.

11 May: 2024 SUN MINIMEAL Berlin E-Prix - Round 9

Pole: Edoardo Mortara

Winner: Nick Cassidy

Before we even had racing underway, Edoardo Mortara and the Mahindra Racing delivered one of the stories of the season. After a challenging start to their 2023/24 campaign, Mortara ended their pointless streak with a stunning Julius Baer Pole Position and three valuable points.

HISTORY: Looking back through Formula E's key moments

However, it was Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy who emerged victorious after a comeback drive for the ages. Having started ninth, he fell back to 21st the half-way point of the race, but fought back to win in Berlin.

Behind him, Jean-Eric Vergne in his DS PENSKE wrapped up another podium with Nissan’s Oliver Rowland in third. The race was impacted by two Safety Cars, and the field filtered with several new faces due to racing commitments for a handful of full-time drivers. Among them was also Taylor Barnard in his second-ever Formula E race for NEOM McLaren, replacing an injured Sam Bird. The 19-year-old, who has just signed with the team for Season 11, managed to finish in 10th and became the championship’s youngest point scorer.

After coming from last, Cassidy won by almost five seconds and was back on top in the Drivers’ World Championship fight.

12 May: 2024 SUN MINIMEAL Berlin E-Prix - Round 10

Pole: Jake Dennis

Winner: Antonio Felix da Costa

Back at the iconic Tempelhof Airport, Andretti achieved their first pole of the season with Jake Dennis in a big turnaround.

TAG Heuer Porsche’s Antonio Felix da Costa led the E-Prix early on through both batches of ATTACK MODE activations, working well with teammate Pascal Wehrlein in second, when both Jaguars were looking to pounce for position.

There was also plenty of elbows-out racing, including an incident between former teammates Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz. The two made contact, sending Fenestraz’s Nissan into the wall, with the Andretti of Nato receiving a rather sarcastic hand clap in response. Maserati MSG Racing’s Maximilian Guenther also had a second consecutive DNF, a difficult end to his two home races.

As the race drew to a close, da Costa went for a move on race leader Mitch Evans that was late on the breaks and into the hairpin. He made it stick with the Jaguar driver Evans still to take his final ATTACK MODE, and resulted in the Portuguese winning Porsche’s home race – their first victory on German soil in Formula E. Da Costa also became the eighth different driver to reach the top step of the podium in Season 10.

25 May: 2024 Shanghai E-Prix - Round 11

Pole: Jean-Eric Vergne

Winner: Mitch Evans

It was a special start to race day, as two-time Formula E champion Vergne managed his 16th pole to equal that of Envision Racing’s Sebastien Buemi on the all-time list.

However, when it came to the race it was a close battle at the top between the Jaguars and the Porsches. Both Wehrlein and da Costa made their way to the front of the pack early on, taking their ATTACK MODEs to retain track position whilst looking after their energy levels.

There was a brief moment where Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries found himself leading, but dropped back with Evans emerging in first at the halfway point of the race. With five laps to go, Wehrlein tried a risky overtake on Evans for the lead, which saw him partially on the grass, but managed to make it stick.

But Evans didn’t go down without a fight, and on the final lap went for a move around the outside of Turn 1 to snatch back the lead from Wehrlein who was now in second. Cassidy was close behind in third, as the trio battled one another until the very last moments of the maiden Shanghai E-Prix, finishing in that order.

26 May: 2024 Shanghai E-Prix - Round 12

Pole: Jake Hughes

Winner: Antonio Felix da Costa

Just a day later, we were back at the Shanghai International Circuit and ready for more action. NEOM McLaren’s Jake Hughes put his car on pole, and was hoping he could convert that into his first career Formula E podium.

Once the lights were out, it was Antonio Felix da Costa who was on a charge to go from third and up into the lead – keen to bounce back from a five-second penalty the day before. He looked strong up ahead, and would lock in his second win of Season 10 stating that he “loves to come back swinging after tough times”.

His teammate, Pascal Wehrlein, didn’t have the same fortunes, with Wehrlein forced to pit with a puncture during the race and finished down in 20th. It was a big hit to his championship chances, with Cassidy extending his lead by crossing the line in fourth.

Pole sitter Hughes was able to hold on to second and claim his first piece of podium silverware in the championship, with Andretti’s Norman Nato also getting his first top three result with the iconic American team. This took the total of different drivers on the Season 10 podiums to 14, well over half the grid and still with four rounds to go!
