FP3 RESULTS: Evans tops the timesheet in final Portland practice

After an action-packed day of racing yesterday, Formula E returned to the Portland International Raceway for Free Practice 3.

Jaguar TCS Racing finished the final practice session of the weekend with a one-two result, with Mitch Evans going fastest with a time of 1m08.659s. The Kiwi has looked quick all weekend, picking up the Julius Baer Pole Position yesterday, but a penalty in the race prevented him from translating that into a victory.

Evans’ teammate was just behind in second, with Nick Cassidy looking to secure victory after a shocking mistake on the penultimate lap during yesterday's race. The unforced error saw Cassidy throw away the win after missing the apex and getting onto the grass, but he said after the chequered flag that he hoped he'd be the 'king of the comeback' today.

Jake Hughes of NEOM McLaren was in third, with Round 13 winner Antonio Felix da Costa of TAG Heuer Porsche in fourth and Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi crossing the line in fifth.

As it happened…

It was another early start for our paddock, as the session got underway at 7:30 local time. The weather is a lot cooler and cloudier than conditions yesterday, but that didn’t stop the grid setting some rapid lap times.

Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries was the fastest guy on track for the first part of the 30 minute session, with the team just missing out on a podium with Edoardo Mortara yesterday when he finished fourth. Can they take their first podium of the season later on? Maybe so.

Caio Collet (Nissan) had a little trip into the run off as he explored all the track, as the rookie experienced his first Formula E race yesterday. Although he confessed to feeling ‘lost’ in the race itself, he managed to outqualify his teammate Sacha Fenestraz and be quicker in the second practice. Collet is racing in place of Oliver Rowland, who was unable to attend the US rounds on the calendar due to an illness.

Mitch Evans took his Jaguar TCS Racing car for a ride across the grass with five minutes to go, a similar mistake that he made yesterday. His teammate, Nick Cassidy, also had a moment out of the exit of Turn 1 and Turn 2, going straight on.
