The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to Italy this weekend, ready for a double-header of incredible action at the iconic Misano circuit. It’s the first time the all-electric racing series has raced around the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, and with a streak of five different winners in the first five races for Season 10, it promises to be unmissable!

Italy has always had a special place in Formula E’s heart, with the Rome E-Prix being a favourite for many years and hosting eight previous races. There have also been several special drivers with Italian nationality that have taken to the track across the last decade in the championship.
Here are those famous five!
Michela Cerruti
Michela Cerruti started the very first Formula E race in Beijing almost 10 years ago, racing for the Trulli Formula E Team. The Italian entered four races, but only reached the chequered flag on her debut and in Punta del Este E-Prix.
Following her time in the electric racing series, Cerruti joined the Italian GT Championship before retiring from racing in 2017 to start a family. However, in 2022, she returned to the world of motorsport as the Team Principal of the Romeo Ferraris FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup.
Luca Filippi
Next up is Luca Filippi who partnered Oliver Turvey at NIO in Season 4 of Formula E. Despite a promising start to his career in the electric championship – scoring points on debut at the 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix – Filippi wouldn’t be able to replicate his early success. On the other side of the NIO garage, Turvey managed 46 points that season in comparison to Filippi’s one point. The Italian was ultimately dropped for the following season.
Away from Formula E, Filippi enjoyed responsibilities like being Honda’s F1 Test Driver and becoming the GP2 Vice-Champion in 2011.
Antonio Giovinazzi
Fresh from his time in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo, Antonio Giovinazzi joined the Formula E circus in Season 8. Pairing up with Dragon Penske Autosport, the Italian gave it his best shot but didn’t manage to haul his GEN2 machine into the points over the course of the year.
Giovinazzi couldn’t complete the whole season after he was ruled out of the finale in Seoul with a hand injury, and didn’t continue into the next generation of Formula E when GEN3 was introduced.
Giovinazzi was also part of the Ferrari team that secured the win in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.
As well as being a Reserve Driver for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1, he also represents the iconic Italian team in the World Endurance Championship, and won the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year with former Formula E driver James Calado plus Alessandro Pier Guidi.
Jarno Trulli
You could argue that Jarno Trulli is the most successful of the drivers in this list. He achieved 15 championship points during his time in Formula E and claimed the Julius Baer Pole Position for the Season 1 Berlin E-Prix. As a result, Italy is the only nationality to have 100% of their front row starts as pole positions. He also had his own Formula E team, which he drove for in addition to other Italians Cerruti and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
Trulli - who competed with Renault in Formula 1, racing alongside Fernando Alonso - just missed out on a podium when he finished fourth at the 2014 Punta del Este ePrix, and his team completed the first season of Formula E.
However, away from electric racing, Trulli will be best known for his long and respected Formula 1 career that spanned over 252 starts from 1997 until 2011.
Vitantonio Liuzzi
The final of the Italian drivers in Formula E is Vitantonio Liuzzi. Also known for his 81 F1 race entries Red Bull Racing, Toro Rosso, Force India and Hispania/HRT, Liuzzi also competed in the inaugural season of the championship. He had five starts and raced for the Trulli Formula E Team, from the Miami E-Prix until Moscow that same year.
During his time, he managed to lock in two championship points when he finished ninth in Berlin, the same race his teammate Jarno Trulli started from pole position.
Edoardo Mortara
Of the current racers, the Swiss-French-Italian leans Italian and sees Italy as a "home" event, despite Geneva being his birthplace.

The Misano E-Prix Round 6 gets underway on Friday 12 April with Free Practice 1 at 17:00 local time.

Then it's on to race day on Saturday 13 April as Free Practice 2 kicks off the day at 08:00 local, qualifying follows at 10:20 local with lights out on Round 6 at 15:00 local.
Round 7 gets underway with FP3 on Sunday morning at 08:00 local, with qualifying next at 10:20 and Round 7 itself at 15:00.
