Nato: “Rome is one of the best tracks on the calendar”

The FIA Formula E championship returns to Rome for its seventh race, and it’s a circuit which proves very popular with drivers and fans alike. Known for being a real beast to tame, the track includes it all, from slow-speed corners to long straights. Here’s what the Nissan team has to say about the Italian street circuit.

"I'm very excited to be back racing in Europe,” Sacha Fenestraz stated when talking about the championship’s return to Rome.

“I've not experienced the Rome track before, but everyone knows that it's extremely bumpy and difficult, so I'm looking forward to getting in the car and putting together a good race to achieve some positive results this weekend.

“It's important that we have a good weekend because it's a double header and there's just two race events to go.”

After the two races on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, Formula E will head to London at the end of July for its final races of Season 9 and its new GEN3 era. For Nissan, this latest generation of race car has proved a challenge for the team, but one they have risen above on several occasions. In Jakarta, during race two, the duo of Fenestraz and Norman Nato finished fourth and fifth, respectively, which was the best result of the year for the team.

"I love the Rome layout, it's one of the best tracks on the calendar,” Nato added about the Italian street track. “It's a proper street circuit, with a bumpy layout. I've always had a good feeling at this venue ever since my rookie year.

“Over the last couple of months we've improved our performance in qualifying and the race, and we're focusing on showing our pace in Rome and scoring strongly on both days."

In addition to the traditional racing activities this weekend, 11 rookie drivers will get their chance to get some laps in over the weekend. The practice session will allow motorsport’s brightest stars to experience the 3.385km Rome circuit in the GEN3 machinery. Nissan has selected Luca Ghiotto, their sim driver and former F2 competitor, to jump behind the wheel as their rookie of choice.

"I'm really excited to drive the Nissan E-4ORCE 04 this weekend and it will be even more special in Rome, at my home E-Prix,” Ghiotto said about the opportunity.

“I've been looking forward to this, it's the highlight of my year! I've done a lot of work in the simulator and really enjoyed the track layout, so I can't wait to get out there for real. It’s a one-off session, so it will be an opportunity for teams to get more time on track and prepare for the event. I'm happy to have this opportunity to help the team this weekend."
