Avalanche Andretti has announced that Zane Maloney will once again get behind the wheel of their GEN3 car when he participates in a Free Practice session in Rome.

The Barbadian racing driver previously took part in the Formula E Rookie Test in Berlin and will get another taste of the all-electric racing series next month.

This opportunity means that the current FIA Formula 2 driver will be representing the American team in the Free Practice 0 session that is due to take place ahead of the Rome E-Prix double header.

"Zane Maloney's performance during the previous Rookie Test in Berlin left a lasting impression on the Avalanche Andretti Formula E team," Roger Griffiths, the Avalanche Andretti Team Principal, said about the news.

"We were impressed by his approach, his maturity, and the pace he showed. Therefore, we are very happy to announce that we are entrusting the No. 36 car to Zane during the Rookie session in Rome."

So far, the likes of Jack Aitken have been confirmed, with the young Brit jumping back into Envision Racing's Jaguar I-TYPE 6 in the Rome session.

The test will occur on 14 July, in the Free Practice 0 session between 14:30 and 15:00 local time.

What classifies as a rookie?

Teams can field someone who's sampled Formula E machinery before, but they must not be drivers included on the Season 9 Entry List, and they must not have competed in a Formula E race in their career before. The idea is to give the best young talent a pathway to race at the very top of the motorsport ladder with a taste of Formula E and the opportunity to impress prospective teams in the world's leading electric race series.
