“It’s gonna be challenging, not just for us drivers, but everyone involved,” confirmed Evans.
“Mechanics, engineers, everyone. It's really explosive heat for the whole day and it’s not easy, so it's definitely the hardest, I would say mentally and physically for us throughout the whole whole season.”
Dealing with hot conditions will be a challenge for all teams in Jakarta, which Evans and Jaguar TCS have prepared for with an array of tactics to avoid any potential discomfort.
“You should be a bit more aware of your fluids and your consumption of electrolytes and water and also try to stay cool before you get in the car. We’ve got some things set up like plunge pools to try and control core temps and trying to delay that really uncomfortable heat that we're gonna be experiencing come the end of the race. Last year was really tough. Now we've got two races. So we're gonna try and recover between the two races and then go again the next day.”
The New Zealander won a thrilling race to finish first last year, but believes his car this year is well set-up to potentially deliver a repeat performance.
“Trying to predict what this car will need here is going to be tricky, but I'm obviously getting two stabs at it on Saturday and Sunday which is going to be helpful.
“Let's see, hopefully we can continue the momentum. It seems like our car this year has been a bit more versatile at most tracks so I'm expecting it to be competitive. Last year, we weren't expected to win, but we won the race. It’s Formula E, so you always get thrown surprises or what you predict does not necessarily always turn out the way you think, but generally, the car's been working pretty well in all conditions, all temps, and all track layouts.”
