Envision Racing's Nick Cassidy took his second career win last time out in Berlin and added to his total of four podiums this season. Breaking down his victory in a race full of drama and overtakes, the Kiwi, currently sitting second in the Drivers' World Championship standings, chatted to Formula E.
"Berlin was a good weekend, better than expected," the Envision driver stated. "Some really solid points. I got quite lucky no one wanted to pass me, but leaving it that long wasn't ideal as it wasn't the plan!
"The race could have been anyone's. The TAG Heuer Porsche looks strong, as did Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti's) and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS PENSKE). There are so many guys right now capable of winning that. It's exciting for the championship, but it also means my feet are on the ground because it can be anyone's right now."
Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein still leads the championship standings, but Cassidy is creeping up and is now only four points away as Formula E returns to the streets in Monaco this weekend.
"I said after the very first race to our guys, we have a very good powertrain - I finished Mexico with 4% energy. Our package is strong, but it's just about executing these days.
"Different guys have been good at doing that at different points. JEV has been a great example of maximising each day, and I look to him and his process. It is close, and going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
"I just want to keep the game plan that I've had this season because it's working. That's going to be the focus. I don't want to talk about anything fantasy-wise or looking too far ahead because I've got a formula that's working."
Cassidy's sights are now firmly set on Monaco as the championship heads to the iconic streets for another year of racing. With GEN3 proving to deliver us all with some incredible action, the Envision star will hope to continue his strong run of success.
"You'll need good car speed and be good in the corners here. Berlin, you could get away with being a bit weak, but you will need speed to make moves, so car balance will be important.
"It's so surreal that you know we're here in the pit lane, but I am based here now, and it almost doesn't feel real, and you have got to get yourself into the mindset that it is just another race day. The days are pretty busy with Free Practice 1 and 2; you wake up at 6 am and honestly have no idea you'll go to sleep happy or sad that night. That's a really exciting thing about Formula E!
"Sometimes, when you have practice on Friday night, you go into Saturday knowing what to expect. Whereas here, with it all in one day, you come to the track and have no idea how you will be."
