'Proud' Sam Bird completes first outing with Jaguar Racing

Sam Bird has completed his first outing with Jaguar Racing since making the move to the British outfit at the end of the 2019/20 ABB FIA Formula E Championship season.

The 33-year-old jumped into the cockpit of Jaguar Racing's 2020/21 I-TYPE 5, sporting its interim camouflage development livery, as preparations stepped up from work in the simulator to the asphalt at a test location in the UK earlier this week.

"I’ve just completed my first day behind the wheel with Jaguar Racing in our development Jaguar I-TYPE 5," said Bird. "After some time in the simulator it was great to get back in a Formula E car.

"I felt very proud to put on the Jaguar overalls this morning for the first time and follow in the footsteps of the great drivers that have competed for the manufacturer.

"I’ve been getting up to speed with my engineers and there is already a great relationship to build on. There are lots of new names and faces and I am enjoying meeting and getting to know all the team.

"Mitch and I have also spent some time together and we are both hungry to bring more success to the team. We have a long season ahead but we’ve made a good start and are looking forward to the Season 7 car launch next month and the official pre-season test in Valencia.”

Bird is one of a select group of drivers to have competed in every Formula E race since the series' inception in 2014, tallying nine wins, 19 podiums, five pole positions and six fastest laps to-date.

The Londoner left Envision Virgin Racing having competed across six seasons with the outfit, after a mutual agreement was reached that they would part ways at the end of Season 6.
