Here at the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, we're used to seeing 24 all-electric cars flying around the city streets but now, thanks in-part to Indian manufacturer team Mahindra Racing, here's your chance to do the same. Introducing: the €2.6 Million Battista Anniversario from Automobili Pininfarina.
When Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina founded his eponymous design house 90 years ago, it's unlikely he'd have imagined building a 1,400kW (1,900hp) all-electric hypercar capable of speeds up to 350 km/h (217mph). But to celebrate the milestone anniversary, Automobili Pininfarina - the carmaking arm of the original Italian design house - will be producing five, special-editions of the Battista Anniversario.
With the same bind-blowing performance figures of the regular Battista, the Anniversario boasts a host of new aero features such as a revised carbon fibre front splitter, side blades, rear diffuser and a bespoke rear wing. Shaving 10kg off the regular Batistta's weight are a new-look set of forged aluminium wheels with motorsport-inspired sidewall writing picked out in white. Completing the celebratory package is a nifty three-colour livery, which takes Pininfarina's paint boffins a full three weeks to complete. Just make sure you don't scratch it, right?
On the inside, a healthy dose of black leather and Alcantara contrasts with details picked out in blue to continue that painstakingly put together paint work on the outside. Setting the Anniversario apart from it's sister are signature ‘Pininfarina 90’ logos and dedication door plaques with a homage to the founding of Carrozzeria Pinin Farina in 1930.
Chief in charge of making sure the Anniversario drives as well as it looks is former Mahindra Racing Formula E driver Nick Heidfeld, who calls on more than 20 years of racing experience including 44 races in the all-electric championship.
"I have piloted the quickest road and race cars in the world. I’ve never driven anything as powerful as the Battista," said Heidfeld.
"The Battista is faster than many race cars, but it is not a pure racing machine. Drivability in all situations is its primary focus. We will now concentrate our time testing and developing Battista to deliver a car that’s at the forefront of technological possibilities and innovation.”
Due to start dynamic testing in the coming months, the 155 Battista cars - including the five Anniversario special editions will be available to a select few for test drives in summer 2020. Until then, you'd best get saving up.
