Following a bumper week of announcements for the FIA Formula E Championship, after launching the Rome E-Prix earlier this week, the fully-electric street racing series broadened and extended its partnership with television sports network Eurosport.
The new three-year deal will see the broadcaster air all 14 races live across 54 markets from the Season Four double-header opener in Hong Kong, taking place on the Central Harborfront on December 2 & 3 2017.
Having already broadcast the series in Germany, Poland and the Nordics since 2015 and the Netherlands since 2016, for Season Four, Eurosport will hold exclusive and sub-licensing rights across Europe, with the exception of the UK, Italy and Spain. Sub-licencing a number of rights to free to air broadcasters, the sports network will complement its own coverage in certain selected markets including, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.
Commenting on the partnership, Eurosport's CEO Peter Hutton was "thrilled to be able to play a part in bringing the sport to more people." Considering Formula E's “unique approach to innovation and willingness to try new things...there is a very real symmetry between Formula E and Eurosport’s values," he added.
Alongside Hutton was Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag, who highlighted Europe as a "crucial market to the growing popularity of Formula E and increased demand for electric vehicle uptake." With the broadcaster "as the Home of the Olympics in Europe - Eurosport and Discovery is perfectly placed to tell the unique story of the electric street racing series," he added.
