Formula E - Facts and Stats

Formula E returns to the stunning Punta del Este circuit next weekend. Ahead of the race, we've taken a look at the important facts and stats of last year’s ePrix, as well as the current season.

Season one stats

  • At 2.808km the Punta del Este ePrix track is the third longest of the season
  • With an average speed of 106.264km/h, the season one Punta del Este ePrix was the fifth quickest of the season
  • The absolute lap record was set by Jean-Eric Vergne in qualifying in 1:15.408s
  • The official lap record is 1:18.451s and was set by Daniel Abt – the only fastest lap of his Formula E career so far
  • The average speed of 128.854km/h of Abt’s lap record means that Punta is the second fastest lap on the calendar
  • There were three Qualcomm Safety Car periods for a total of five laps
  • There were four different leaders – Buemi, Piquet, Vergne and Heidfeld – but Heidfeld only led thanks to a pitstop infringement for which he was subsequently penalised
  • Jean-Eric Vergne took pole position on his Formula E debut. Vergne had been drawn in group one and was on pole by 0.122s with a lap of 1:15.408s
  • Salvador Duran also made his Formula E debut in Punta del Este for Amlin Aguri, while Antonio Garcia appeared for the first time for Team China Racing
  • The Punta del Este ePrix was the second and so far final Formula E race for Matthew Brabham, who raced for Andretti
  • Sebastien Buemi won last year’s Punta del Este ePrix, the first of his four Formula E wins so far. Nelson Piquet Jr was second, which was his first podium finish in Formula E – he has since gone on to take a further four podium finishes
  • Lucas di Grassi’s third place was his third podium on the trot. With eight top-three finishes, di Grassi has more podium finishes than any other driver
  • Fourth place for Jarno Trulli was his and the team’s best finish in Formula E
  • Sixth place for Bruno Senna earned him his first Formula E points
  • 10th place for Nick Heidfeld meant he scored his first Formula E point
  • Antonio Garcia’s 11th place was his best in Formula E
  • Michela Cerruti’s 12th place was her best Formula E finish

  • Oliver Turvey has won four straight FanBoost dating back to the London ePrix in season one

  • Sam Bird is on a run of four straight points scoring finishes
  • Buemi is the only driver to have started back-to-back races on pole position* (Prost recorded back-to-back poles in Beijing and Putrajaya but didn’t start the latter from pole)
  • Buemi is the only driver to have recorded back-to-back fastest laps
  • We are still waiting for our first back-to-back winner in Formula E
  • Robin Frijns became the sixth different driver to score points for Andretti with third in Putrajaya – no other team has had so many drivers score points (Vergne, Speed, Montagny, Pic, Wilson)
  • Frijns was the fourth driver to score a podium for Andretti (Vergne, Speed, Montagny) – no other team has had as many
  • De Silvestro has equalled Cerruti’s record of number of Formula E starts without scoring a point (4)

Season two stats

  • Six drivers have led a lap so far this season – Buemi (39 laps), di Grassi (10), Prost (4), Duval (3), Piquet (2), Frijns (1)
  • Only one driver has completed a lap in 18th (and last) place – Piquet
  • New Mahindra signing Oliver Rowland will be the 39th different driver to race in Formula E. He is the fifth Brit (Bird, Legge, Wilson, Turvey)
