On average hundreds-of-thousands of pictures are taken each season by the Formula E photographers, painting a picture of all the glory, thrills and action that happened across the year.
Here's one image for each of the 16 races from Season 8, telling the story of the race to the title.
Round 1: Diriyah - Champions kick off Season 8
The season started in style with a lot of expectations throughout the grid, there was a new knockout qualifying format arriving and more power on tap for the drivers across the 45 minutes plus one lap. But as the flag dropped it was Mercedes-EQ continuing where they left off from the previous season claiming a commanding 1-2 finish. Reigning champion Nyck de Vries mirrored his performance from the 2021 running to win the opening race again.
Round 2: Diriyah - More Mercedes power on top
Racing at night in Diriyah looks spectacular, as the drivers jostle for position under the lights. The second day of racing proved that the curving circuit in the Saudi Arabian desert is happy hunting group for the Mercedes-EQ Silver Arrow 02. Saturday was all about the factory outfit, but the second day the reins were handed over to the privateers, as ROKiT Venturi Racing's Edoardo Mortara fought his way to victory ahead of Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) and the Swiss-Italian's team-mate Lucas di Grassi rounding out the podium.
Round 3: Mexico City - Perfect Porsche win big
After two seasons in Formula E and Mexico being a sore spot for both TAG Heuer Porsche and Pascal Wehrlein. This season the team-driver pairing experienced a redemptive victory dominating the proceedings with a clear drive to a debut win, toying with the rest of the field as they ran a perfectly judged energy management strategy. To make the race day even better, not only was it the first win, but Andre Lotterer followed his compatriot across the line for a 1-2 finish.
Round 4: Rome - Giovinazzi at home in Rome
An Italian racing in Rome, the passionate home fans had been without a driver representing the famous Il Tricolore for some years until the arrival of Antonio Giovinazzi. An all-electric rookie, Giovinazzi was still acclimatising to the challenging nature of Formula E. Saturday saw him cross the line 18th and Sunday wasn't to go his way, his DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT machine coming to a halt with technical issues.
Round 5: Rome - Conquering the Eternal City
Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans was the star of Rome. The New Zealander doubled up in the Eternal City, firing himself and the British marque into title contention after a steady start to the season. Both of his victories came in similar fashion, fighting his way through to the front with some inspired overtaking as he became part of a small club of driver's to make it a clean sweep in a double-header.
Round 6: Monaco - Another spin around the iconic streets
If there were ever streets made for Formula E to race on then it is the historic asphalt that lines the Principality. With the full circuit being used again, it was another classic race as Stoffel Vandoorne stealthily made his way through in a clinical and patient drive to the front of the pack. From there he didn't look back and scored his third career victory in Formula E.
Round 7: Berlin - Eyes on the championship
On to Berlin Tempelhof and the challenging concrete apron of the historic airport. Mortara landed in the German capital with victory in his eyes, blazing to two pole positions over the double-header weekend and putting in a smooth drive to claim a win and a second across the two days. Bringing himself right in the fight for championship, fitting after his title hopes were cruelly taken away from him in a horror shunt in the 2021 season finale in Berlin .
Round 8: Berlin - Emotional return to the top
After a difficult period following the highs of opening the season with a win, de Vries was visibly emotional after a clean and controlled victory in the second race in Berlin. To cap it off, Mercedes-EQ were in complete dominant control of their home race as the Silver Arrow 02 locked out the top four positions.
Round 9: Jakarta - Championship challengers go toe-to-toe
The fight for the title was really on in Jakarta. Under sweltering conditions and while Stoffel Vandoorne was working his way through the pack following a tough qualifying, it was left Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH), Evans and Mortara, the three other championship protagonists. The trio duelled for the all-important 25 points, jostling for position right up to the chequered flag.
Round 10: Marrakesh - Recovery from the back
There are some days when champions are made and Saturday in Marrakesh was an important drive for Vandoorne and overcoming adversity. Venturi outdid the factory team in their similar machinery, mastering the scorching conditions to win. On the flip side Vandoorne struggled in qualifying, leaving him 20th on the grid but delivered a brave run through the field to finish eighth and score vital championship points.
Round 11: New York City - From disbelief to jubilation
New York City was a rollercoaster of emotions for Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing). The New Zealander was in control with a measured drive at the head, as some experienced hands hung to his rear diffuser. A flash of torrential rain drenched the track and Cassidy was left aquaplaning into the barriers, joined by di Grassi and Vandoorne in quick succession. Saved by the race ending under a red flag and the results being taken from the previous lap, Cassidy claimed his debut Formula E victory.
Round 12: New York City - The DAC is back in Brooklyn
The second race in New York City saw the victorious return to the top for Antonio Felix da Costa - both black and gold of DS TECHEETAHs missing from the top step since the Portuguese driver's last victory at Monaco the previous season. Overcoming his doubters, the former champion picked himself up to win a lights-to-flag race in Brooklyn - exclaiming that 'the DAC is back' as he crossed the finish line.
Round 13: London - Charged by cheers
Formula E is truly unique motorsport spectacle, as the lower decibels allow for other sounds to creep through. The squeal of tyres on asphalt, the clash of carbon as the cars collide and also the cheers of the crowds. It was this final note that gave Jake Dennis the surge he needed to win in front of a home crowd. A true expression of the famous motorsport phrase that racing at home is worth a few extra tenths a lap.
Round 14: London - The record-breaker
There is no Formula E without di Grassi. The Brazilian has been part of the series since the beginning, joining as the third employee to help grow the championship right before a car even existed. His name is all over the record books, and he climbed another rung in London to become the joint driver with the most wins alongside long-time rival Sebastien Buemi. Pushing the boat even further in the final two rounds, he also became the first driver to surpass 1,000 points and the first to complete 100 races.
Round 15: Seoul - Title hopes kept alive
The penultimate race was a demonstration in resilience by Evans. At the start of the day he looked unable to hook up a decent lap in Seoul, but rescued something in qualifying to start third on the grid. With the rain truly coming down for the race, he flew off the line, immediately taking second from Oliver Rowland (Mahindra Racing) and then quickly dispatching di Grassi from the lead. A red flag and a race restart followed, but he was never troubled from there - keeping the title fight against Vandoorne going to the final round.
Round 16: Seoul - A successful end
With one victory, eight podiums, two pole positions, Vandoorne was crowned the ABB FIA Formula E World Champion in the very final round. Capping off a consistent season that was unmatched by anyone, the Belgian's podium prowess set a new record for the most rostrum finishes in a season. And with Mercedes-EQ's departure at the end of another successful campaign it was back-to-back driver and team titles for the legendary German marque in their swansong.
