With London, and the final location of Season 9, just around the corner, ABT CUPRA look back to Rome where they had their most successful weekend of GEN3 to date. Driver Nico Mueller managed to achieve championship points in both races, with a sixth and tenth place finish to his name in Rome.

Starting from 14th, Mueller managed to stay out of trouble and work his way up to a seriously impressive sixth place during the first of two race days in Italy. The Swiss racer was also in a fierce battle with the DS PENSKE and two-time Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne as well as Nissan’s Norman Nato until the chequered flag.

“We made the best of a difficult starting position and scored valuable points for the team,” Mueller said after making up the eight positions on Saturday. “What was positive was not only the positions, but above all the fact that we are getting closer and closer in terms of pace and efficiency.”

“The result on Saturday was good for the whole team – everyone deserved this small moment of success after the tough last few months,” ABT’s CEO and Team Principal, Thomas Biermaier said about the result. In fact, his sixth place gave him eight points, which is as many as the whole ABT CUPRA team had managed all season combined.

“Nico was strong all day and kept a cool head in a turbulent race and acted very smart”, he added.

As for the other side of the garage, Saturday’s race was a tough one for Robin Frijns. The Dutchman was caught up in the six-car collision caused by Jaguar TCS Racing’s Sam Bird, and despite his best attempts to avoid the crash, Frijns clipped his suspension and was forced to immediately retire.

“I’m sure Robin would have scored points too if he hadn’t been caught up in the aftermath of the accident,” Biermaier continued. “While Mueller just managed to avoid a violent crash in front of him, Frijns grazed a damaged car and had to retire early with damage."
