With days to go until the ABB FIA Formula E Championships double-header season finale in New York City on 14 and 15 July, Virgin Racing has appointed Sylvain Filippi as the team's Managing Director, who will take up the position with immediate effect.
The French-born 38-year-old, who previously held the position of Chief Operations Officer within the team, was one of the founding members of the racing outfit. “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and thank the team’s board and shareholders for their support and trust in me," said Filippi. "The current season may be drawing to a close, but we have a lot of exciting work ahead of us to prepare for Formula E’s important fifth season, and the whole team together with its partners and new majority shareholder Envision are very much looking forward to this.”
Filippi's appointment comes in the wake of Alex Tai, DS Virgin Racing's Former Team Principal's departure in June 2018. Currently third in the teams' championship standings with 157 points, DS's frontman Sam Bird has a chance of bringing home the drivers' championship title in New York as he goes head to head with leader Jean-Eric Vergne (Techeetah) in Brooklyn on 14 and 15 July.
