Ticktum: 'I'm so proud to deliver the win for the team'

CUPRA KIRO's Dan Ticktum is making waves once again, this time, a tidal one. Fresh off his first-ever podium in Tokyo, the Brit finally claimed his maiden Formula E win in Jakarta, after 60 race starts.

Long hailed as one of the most promising talents to enter the Formula E paddock, Ticktum's journey has been anything but smooth. Since his rookie season with NIO 333 in 2022, results have often failed to reflect his raw potential, with the machinery at his disposal limiting end product.

This season, however, things have progressed for car, team and driver. A top-five finish, was followed by a podium in Tokyo, and now a breakthrough victory in Jakarta.

Ticktum got off to a steady start from fifth before capitalising on a late-race shuffle caused by a Safety Car and two Full Course Yellows. With a dose of opportunism under the stifling humidity, he took the lead from early contenders Jake Dennis and Nyck De Vries as both drivers faced late technical issues.

Ticktum then held off Mahindra's Edoardo Mortara in a tense showdown across the final four laps, to mark not only his first-ever victory but also CUPRA KIRO's first since the 2014/15 season - Formula E's very first campaign.

"A lot of people sort of noticed that I haven't been quite as euphoric getting out of the car as people expected," he said. "That's because there's a lot of background difficulties I've dealt with in the past few years in this sport with some political stuff on the way up to Formula 1.

“I have maybe shot myself in the foot a few times, and made it difficult for them to keep me, but they did. It's been tough and there's an inner feeling of proving a lot of people wrong and shutting a lot of ignorant people up.

"I'm very happy inside, and very proud of the team for what they've achieved, and the rate of improvement we've gone through this season.”

Ticktum feels there's more to come. Looking back on progress made this season, he added: "We struggled at the beginning, but once you have a win with 80 points, I'm going to be looking at the championship table thinking I wish I were able to score some points at the start of the year. It's been a very, very tough few years, not just for me, but for them as well.

"I'm just proud that I've been able to deliver this today, and to start consistently delivering points and good results for the team, it's a very nice feeling. I've seen some replays on the TV of what it means to them, and that's one of the best feelings in winning this race."
