The Irishman, born in Dublin, rose the ranks as a driver before stepping into team ownership in the 1970s.

Jordan raced through the 70s and 80s, with success in the irish Kart Championship and competed in Formula Ford, Formula 3, Formula 2 and also made appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

His eponymous team made its way onto the F1 grid for the 1991 season and famously, Jordan gave Michael Schumacher his break - the eventual seven-time World Champion debuting during the 1991 season.

The likes of Damon Hill, Jean Alesi, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, Rubens Barrichello and Martin Brundle all turned out in Jordan colours - with the team securing a famous maiden win at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix, with Hill heading home Ralf Schumacher in a one-two finish.

Jordan sold his team in 2005, and embarked on a long, successful and ever-entertaining career as a pundit with the BBC and Channel 4.

Jordan was - and will be celebrated as - one of the sport's biggest characters and pioneers. All at Formula E wish to pass on their sincerest condolences to Eddie's family and friends at this impossibly difficult moment.
