INTERNET REACTS: Gulavit Jakarta E-Prix

With two races in the hot and humid Jakarta sun, it was always going to be a special race weekend. As TAG Heuer Porsche and Pascal Wehrlein found themselves back to their winning ways, the Jaguar TCS Racing teammates came together again and Maserati MSG Racing’s Maximilian Guenther tried to top every session he competed in, this is how YOU reacted!

Wehrlein's move for the lead

After starting in third, it only took Pascal Wehrlein until the fourth lap of Round 10 to make a move for the lead of the race. Going for an overtake on the Julius Baer Pole Position holder, Maximilian Guenther, Wehrlein pulled off the pass and took the lead. He'd keep the first place until the chequered flag, earning himself his third win of the season.

A very close save!

There were several close calls during the first race in Jakarta. One which left fans hiding behind their cushions when watching the action came from Jean-Eric Vergne (DS PENSKE) and former championship leader, Nick Cassidy (Envision Racing). The two battled for position, but Cassidy made contact with JEV and did a fantastic job to save it!

Teammates collide... again

Although Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans was able to get himself a podium in Round 11, he and Sam Bird had an unfortunate end to their race on Saturday. Bird, who had wiped out his teammate earlier this year in Hyderabad, made another mistake and hit the back of Evans towards the end of the race. Mitch would eventually retire and Bird took full blame, but not an ideal situation for the Brit.

Cassidy's championship challenge takes a hit

After leaving Monaco leading the Drivers' World Championship standings, Cassidy had a shocker of a weekend in Jakarta. Although he picked up points for seventh and fastest lap in race one, race two ended with a damaged front wing and zero points as he crossed the line in 18th.

Max-imum Guenther makes Maserati history

After securing pole position twice over the weekend, as well as topping all timed sessions, Maserati MSG Racing’s Maximilian Guenther finally converted his amazing pace into a race victory. After a wobbly start to the season for the Maserati team, he finally got the team their maiden win and the first world championship single-seater win since Juan-Manuel Fangio's legendary win at the Nurburgring in 1957.

Even football royalty got in on the celebrations!
