Amelia Johns

What does your role look like day-to-day and how does it contribute to the wider business?

"As Managing Director, my role is to lead the team and be the ultimate point of accountability for the business unit to deliver to its strategy, goals and targeted customer outcomes which includes financial performance, product development and delivery, securing new contracts and creating our 3, 5 and 10 year business plans."

"Within the team, we are creating the most cutting-edge technology available in market for DCDC power conversion. Our technology is born in motorsport, but we use it to create the most efficient and compact power supply across a number of other industries."

How did you end up working in motorsport?

"I’d spent a long time working in motoring and transport sectors before making a switch to the performance side of the automotive industry. Most of my career involved leading commercial product teams in the creation and selling of products and services in Australia and Europe."

What is your favourite thing about your job, do you have any fond memories, proud achievements?

"Leading a team of people is very rewarding work! Right now, I’m most excited by the opportunity our motorsport expertise gives us not only to win races, but also to solve the most complex problems in other industries. No other industry works at such a pace or pushes as many boundaries technically as racing. In fact, one of our earliest products started its life supplying an instant trackside charge – but it’s now going to help power a $70B global enterprise keen to completely decarbonise operations."

What would be your advice for young women looking to enter the sport?

"Take the opportunity when you can to research different organisations and businesses involved in the sport and reach out to see what programmes, internships, work experience or other opportunities there are to meet people living it every day. Use career counsellors in school and tertiary education settings for advice and to help you research options. Don’t be afraid to join LinkedIn as a young adult approaching university or other professional networks to try and find people to connect with and ask for advice. As a leader I am always looking for my people to take initiative and make time for those who show the courage to reach out and try."
