Alain Prost delighted as e.dams-Renault wins title

E.dams-Renault has secured the inaugural Formula E teams’ championship following Sebastien Buemi’s victory in the opening Visa London ePrix.

The French squad now has a 64-point lead over Audi Sport ABT and cannot be overhauled in the second London race on Sunday 28 June.

Speaking after the teams’ title was secured, e.dams-Renault co-founder Alain Prost was delighted with his squad’s success but urged them to focus on winning the drivers’ title for Buemi too.

He said: “It’s almost like a dream because it secured the constructors’ championship but the drivers’ is still open. It’s exactly the same feeling and motivation I had when I was racing, that is: try to do it in the last race to keep the championship open, that way you’ll feel better with any motivation. We now just need to forget what happened today and concentrate on tomorrow and try to win with Sebastien again.”

E.dams-Renault has been the most successful team in the first season of Formula E thanks to Buemi’s two wins in the Punta del Este and Monaco races to go with his first London triumph, and Nico Prost’s victory in the Miami ePrix. The team has also taken more pole positions – five than any of its rivals.

With Buemi taking his London win from the Julius Baer pole position, and in the process securing three extra points for the title fight, Prost reckoned the weekend could not have got off to a better start.

“It was a fantastic race and we couldn’t have expected much better than that,” he said. “We wanted to win the first one, especially with Sebastien because he is in a better position for the championship.”
