Formula E opens applications for Season 11 Better Futures Fund

Formula E has today launched the application process for its flagship charitable support programme – the Better Futures Fund – providing direct support to local impact projects and causes across all race locations in Season 11.

BERLIN

Launched during Season 10, the Better Futures Fund was created to build on the positive legacy Formula E leaves behind in host cities, maintaining the world-leading sustainability standards that the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship sets across the sporting and sustainability sectors.

BETTER FUTURES FUND: Formula E's lasting legacy

With the goal of accelerating sustainable human progress through the power of electric racing, the Fund empowers and supports communities via impactful initiatives that will leave a legacy well beyond race weekends through funding (€25,000 per city), awareness, engagement with Formula E.

Focusing on initiatives aligned to Formula E’s purpose and sustainability strategy delivering environmental and social impact, the Better Futures Fund is designed to leave a significant tangible impact all year round, far beyond each scheduled race week.

The Fund plays a pivotal role in the series’ social impact strategy – Formula Equity – that tackles social inequalities and nurtures resilient and diverse communities where races take place. This focus is aligned to Formula E’s wider commitment to diversity, equity & inclusion, both internally and externally.

Announced towards the end of Season 10 ahead of  the 2024 Berlin E-Prix in May, the fund was rolled out in all remaining Season 10 host cities (Shanghai, Portland, London) with the funding enabling a projected impact of 13,520 people within those local communities.

For Season 11, the Fund will focus on:

  • Empowering underserved communities in race locations, to tackle social inequalities
  • Environmental protection, prioritising nature and air quality in urban environments
  • Community engagement with the transition to more sustainable lifestyles

Alongside the funding itself, Formula E is committing to working with each charity holistically, providing awareness of the causes, engaging directly with the organisation and offering volunteer support while in the city. Organisations will also be included within Formula E’s wider sustainability strategy, including hosting representatives at track and introducing them to the wider Formula E ecosystem as part of the series’ Inspiration Hour held every race week, to engage local communities with Formula E’s races.

Charity Application Process

  • Expression of Interest: Charities will need to complete an expression of interesting form by the deadline in their market
  • Review & Shortlisting: Formula E reviews all submissions and creates a shortlist based on alignment with the fund's impact themes and mission
  • Full Proposal Submission: Shortlisted organisations are invited to submit a full funding proposal
  • Final Selection:The selection panel will review full proposals received against funding criteria and select one cause per city

Julia Palle, VP Sustainability at Formula E, said:
“We’re delighted to be expanding our Better Futures Fund to all cities this upcoming season, following the immediate and lasting impact it has created in four race markets in Season 10, benefitting more than 13,500 people.

"Our mission as a championship is not just to leave each location where we race better off, but for our impact to have meaningful, measurable and lasting benefits. We recognise that underserved and more diverse communities are often most affected by climate change, so by supporting charities and projects that focus on environmental protection and improving air quality we can help those most in need.”
