The 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix promises high stakes and intense competition, with the last two winners of this race going on to claim the Drivers' World Championship. Reigning champion and last year's Mexico City victor, Pascal Wehrlein, will be particularly eager to make a statement following his dramatic crash in São Paulo last month that left his car overturned in the wall.
Meanwhile, NEOM McLaren land in Mexico as the current Teams’ World Championship leaders, buoyed by rookie Taylor Barnard’s podium finish in Round 1. Jaguar TCS Racing are also in strong form, with Mitch Evans having triumphed in the season opener in spectacular last-to-first fashion, and Jaguar leading the newly formed Manufacturers' World Championship also. With three titles to fight for in Season 11, every point counts.
The 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix starts at 14:05 local time on Saturday 11 January.
Mexico's storied Formula E history
Mexico has been a cornerstone of the Formula E calendar since its debut in Season 2, hosting nine thrilling races to date. Only Germany and the USA have hosted more races in the championship's history. This year, the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, named in honor of legendary drivers Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez, will once again set the stage for electrifying action in the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix.
The clockwise layout remains unchanged from last season, where a new chicane was introduced after Turn 8. The total track length is 2.630km, with the ATTACK MODE activation zone sitting on the outside of Turn 15, in front of the passionate Foro Sol crowd. Set at 2,240 meters above sea level in the heart of the oldest capital city in the Americas, Mexico City’s unique altitude and atmosphere promise a challenging and exhilarating event for drivers and teams alike.
Home to over nine million residents, with a metropolitan population exceeding 21 million, Mexico City is not only the largest city in North America but also a vibrant hub of culture and motorsport passion. The city has witnessed remarkable moments in Formula E history, including Pascal Wehrlein’s maiden victory and Porsche’s first series win in Season 8.

Sebastien Buemi, a three-time podium finisher in Mexico City, will look to extend his successful record, while fans will fondly recall the achievements of Mexican drivers Salvador Durán and Esteban Gutiérrez. Gutiérrez notably secured a points finish on his Formula E debut at this very circuit in Season 3.
Mexico City's ones to watch
Lucas di Grassi (ABT CUPRA) has long been one to watch in Mexico. He won in Puebla in Season 7, but the Brazilian made it two trips to the top step in Mexico City itself in 2019/20, after his first win in front of the Foro Sol in 2016/17.
That Season 5 win went down in Formula E history. Then-rookie Pascal Wehrlein fought hard out-front and veteran di Grassi wouldn’t give him a moments peace. Heading into the final lap, almost 40,000 fans took in Formula E’s most dramatic race finish, with Wehrlein holding fast to the last, before running out of usable energy after the final turn – allowing di Grassi to slip by right as they crossed the line.

In Season 8, a weight was lifted at German giants TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team following its first ABB FIA Formula E World Championship victory in Mexico City.
Pascal Wehrlein led home a dominant Porsche one-two at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez from teammate Andre Lotterer, with the team inflicting an extra lap on the field with just a couple of seconds remaining on the clock. Porsche's perfectly calculated strategy yielded double silverware and both Wehrlein and the outfit's breakthrough in electric motorsport.
In more recent history, eventual Season 9 World Champion Jake Dennis got things off to the best possible start and laid down a marker at the off in the GEN3 era with victory by some eight seconds from Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein in Round 1.
Wehrlein went one better in Season 11, though, for his second win in the city after a maiden victory back in his Mahindra days in Season 8.
He's debatably currently the driver to beat around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Two wins, three poles and the best qualifying record with an average grid slot of 2.4. He's also representing the team - Porsche - that's scored the most points here, 101 to ABT's 99 - all despite the latter's longer stint in the series.
GEN3 Evo is quick… really quick
Formula E’s latest race car, the GEN3 Evo, is the quickest accelerating FIA single-seater and capable of 0-60mph in just 1.82 seconds. Therefore, it’s no surprise that the lap times around the Anhembi Sambadrome in the season-opener were way quicker than our two previous trips.
GEN3 EVO: Everything you need to know about Formula E's latest electric car
Reigning World Champion Pascal Wehrlein (TAG Heuer Porsche) managed to make it back-to-back Julius Baer Pole Positions in São Paulo, starting from the P1 grid slot in both Season 10 and Season 11. However, this time his pole lap came in at 1m09.851s, almost three seconds quicker than his last pole lap from earlier this year.
GEN3 Evo quick facts:
- Capable of 0-60mph in 1.82 seconds (0-100kph in 1.86s), 30% faster than a current F1 car
- New reinforced body kit that enhances aerodynamics and durability
- Enhanced all-wheel drive capabilities available in key race moments, including qualifying duels, race starts, and ATTACK MODE
- Optimised Hankook iON all-weather tyres, delivering superior grip
- Increase in percentage of reusable materials in the tyres, from 26% to 35%
The Season 11 Formula E driver line-up
There was plenty of off-season drama in the driver market ahead of the start of Season 11. Here's your reminder of which drivers and teams are racing in Formula E in 2025.
Maximilian Günther has joined DS PENSKE, partnering two-time Formula E Champion Jean-Éric Vergne, after departing Maserati MSG Racing. Though both teams use the Stellantis powertrain, this move marks a fresh chapter for Günther, who has been in the championship since Season 5.
Meanwhile, Stoffel Vandoorne has left DS PENSKE to join Maserati MSG Racing, where he will team up with newcomer Jake Hughes, who transitions from NEOM McLaren for the GEN3 Evo era.

Some teams have opted for stability, retaining their line-ups from last season. Envision Racing will continue with Robin Frijns and Season 2 World Champion Sébastien Buemi, while TAG Heuer Porsche remains committed to defending World Champion Pascal Wehrlein and his teammate António Félix da Costa.
Mahindra Racing will also keep Edoardo Mortara and Nyck de Vries, and Jaguar TCS Racing’s duo Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy, will return after securing the Teams' World Championship at the Season 10 finale in London.

The season also brings exciting new faces: rookie Zane Maloney joins Lola Yamaha ABT in their inaugural Formula E season, pairing with Season 3 World Champion and home hero in Brazilian Lucas di Grassi. NEOM McLaren welcomes back Taylor Barnard, who filled in last season and will embark on his first full campaign alongside Formula E veteran - a competitor in every season - Sam Bird.
Newly-rebranded Kiro Race Co was the final team to confirm its line-up, with Dan Ticktum and David Beckmann the pairing for Season 11.
The refreshed liveries, teams and partners for Season 11
Several Formula E teams underwent significant transformations alongside the introduction of the new GEN3 Evo car over the off-season.
ABT has partnered with the renowned Lola Cars and established a multi-year technical collaboration with Yamaha, rebranding as Lola Yamaha ABT for the upcoming season. Featuring an eye-catching blue and yellow colour scheme, the team boasts a strong line-up with veteran driver Lucas di Grassi and rookie Zane Maloney.
In another notable change, the Forest Road Company, a Los Angeles-based investment firm, has acquired 100% ownership of the ERT Formula E Team, which has become Kiro Race Co.
Starting this season, Kiro Race Co will sport a bold black and bright green livery and has secured a technical partnership with Porsche Motorsport. This collaboration will provide the team with access to Porsche's championship-winning powertrain technology, bolstering their competitive ambitions in the championship.
Formula E champions sustainability in Mexico City
From grassroots social impact programmes and local community projects supported by the Better Futures Fund, to powering the event by renewable energy and significant waste management systems, social and environmental sustainability continues to be in Formula E’s DNA as it enters its second decade of sustainable motorsport.
As Formula E maintains its position as the world’s number one ESG sport, having last year topped the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS) for the third consecutive year, maintaining its leadership of the Corporate, Environment, Social and Governance (CESG) categories, the series continues to support communities and help protect the environment not just during the season, but all year round.
Sustainability credentials at the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix include:
- Sustainable Energy Sources: The event will be powered by 100% renewable energy using Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO), reducing emissions by up to 90%.
- Better Futures Fund: Centro transitorio de capacitación y educación recreativa El Caracol AC (El Caracol) will receive €25,000 from Formula E’s Better Futures Fund to support their ‘School of the Butterflies' project, providing educational support, health care, food, transportation, teaching materials, and safe spaces to children, adolescents, and families transitioning out of life on the streets in Mexico City. Engagement during race week with the charity will include a visit from Formula E to the charity, and hosting up to 100 members of El Caracol's community at the race.
- Community Engagement: Formula E continues its long-standing collaboration with Con Ganas de Vivir, a charity dedicated to combating cancer and improving the quality of life for patients and their families since Season 2. Formula E will visit the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases during race week, a leading hospital charity focused on sustainability and addressing the impact of air pollution on health.
- The Inspiration Hour: A Community Tour will engage up to 260 individuals from three groups, Con Ganas de Vivir, TechnoReady and university students from five universities across Mexico City, inspiring members of the local community to engage with and pursue future opportunities within motorsport, aligned with Formula E’s focus on creating inclusive opportunities for all.
- Air Freight Emissions Reduction: Formula E continues to reduce freight-related CO2 emissions in S11 through optimising logistics, reducing air freight from three planes to two, and enhancing sea freight solutions, with an estimated saving of at least 25% of freight-related CO2 emissions in S11.
FIA Girls on Track at Hankook Mexico City E-Prix
FIA Girls on Track activity for the 2025 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix includes:
- Hosting up to 270 young women for its FIA Girls on Track programme across race week. Attendees will participate in workshops, gaming, career talks and a Pit Lane Walk, promoting empowerment and education in motorsport and engineering.
- Events held in collaboration with local STEM programmes, Technolochicas and TechnoReady, hosting career talks during race week and inviting 50 young women to an exclusive on-site event on race day, aligning with the championships wider social impact approach of involving and engaging local communities in each race location.
- The FIA Girls on Track programme is proudly supported by Hankook (Presenting Partner), ABB (Principal Partner) and Fortescue Zero (Official Partner).
Reaffirming its commitment to education and gender inclusivity in motorsport, the FIA Girls on Track initiative for season 11 is aiming to reach even more young women in every race market, supporting the growing demand of young women who are seeking opportunities and support to pursue careers in motorsport. This is part of Formula E’s broader long-term strategy to advance gender equality and support women’s pathways into the sport.
