Formula E wins inaugural Net Zero Strategy Award

Formula E’s world-leading net zero carbon strategy has won the edie Net Zero Award, reaffirming the championship’s position as the most sustainable sport on the planet.

Formula E - Net Zero since Day Zero

Formula E’s net zero carbon strategy was commended at the awards ceremony last night for its ambition in reducing overall emissions in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship by 45% by 2030. Formula E was also the first sport in the world to achieve net zero carbon from inception in 2020.

Since making then Formula E became the first sport in the world to have their emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), it is more than half way to achieving the 2030 target across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 having reduced championship emissions by 28% in just three years.

Formula E built on this commitment by becoming the first global sports organisation to align to PAS 2060, the internationally applicable specification for the demonstration of carbon neutrality ensuring accountability, accuracy, and credible claims.

Edie’s new Net-Zero Awards have been created to recognise and celebrate organisations that are spearheading the transition towards a net zero carbon economy and that are taking world-leading steps in that transition. They run in tandem to the prestigious edie Awards that showcase the most sustainable businesses around the globe.

Julia Palle, Vice President, Sustainability, at Formula E, said: “We are thrilled to have our world-leading net zero carbon strategy recognised by edie’s inaugural Net Zero Awards. With 10 years of racing under our belt our mission is not only to remain the most sustainable sport on the planet, but to inspire and encourage other sports and sectors to do more and move faster.

"We can all do more to reduce our impact on the environment, but with a clearly defined net zero carbon strategy the impact can be truly game changing in protecting people and the planet.”
