Maximilian Guenther took only three races to win for DS PENSKE, adding another team to his impressive win list in Formula E. The German racer has proved himself as one of the most adaptable drivers on the grid, and secured his first victory of the GEN3 Evo era with a sensational overtake on Oliver Rowland in the final moments of the first Jeddah E-Prix.
Discussing his maiden victory with DS PENSKE, Guenther really emphasised how special this win – his sixth in Formula E – meant to him.

“My first win with DS PENSKE, I think we've had a very good start of the season. We performed well on the first three weekends. We were unlucky in Sao Paulo, we sorted it last time out in Mexico and then obviously, here, it was a perfect day with pole, fastest lap and the race win.

“I am extremely happy and extremely proud. The race was actually really difficult. I think Oli [Rowland] did an amazing job until the end, defending so well. We just stayed patient and we had more energy at the end, so I was able to get him, but it was hard work!”
With one percent more energy, Guenther was able to send it past Rowland on the approach to the final chicane on the last lap and snatch the lead away from the Yorkshireman. It was a fantastic move and had the fans on their feet, as it also a third another different winner from a different team and with a different manufacturer so far in Season 11.
Guenther went for a different strategy to those around him, opting to take his first ATTACK MODE after his PIT BOOST – a new mid-race feature that debuted during the Jeddah E-Prix. Although Guenther looked to have missed out from the new strategy feature, his later activation of ATTACK MODE worked to his advantage and was able to make his way up the grid until he was on Rowland’s tail on the last lap.
“Rowland was defending so well that it was just about if I got the chance at the last corner, because he did everything right to make himself very wide. I knew if he was to lift early, then I've got the chance, and I took it at the end.
“I'm really happy about today. If you want to win a race in Formula E, all the stars have to be aligned. I think this was the case.
“[For Round 4], everybody's starting from zero. The competition here is so incredibly tight. You always have to stay with both feet on the ground, and we do our homework tomorrow. I like the tracks, the fights going well, and yeah, I will give my very best tomorrow again.”
Guenther continued his impressive pace to go top of the timesheets in the final Free Practice before qualifying, and will hope to make it back-to-back race wins when lights go out on Saturday 15 February at 20:00 local time.
