DS Automobiles celebrates 10 years of Formula E

DS Automobiles are all ready to write the latest chapter in their 10-year motorsport history, as the French manufacturer embarks on the GEN3 Evo era.

Vergne champion

The French premium constructor, part of the Stellantis group says its "long-term involvement in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship underlines the brand’s desire to accelerate technology transfer, imagine the mobility of tomorrow, and develop its international standing."

DS Automobiles first entered Formula E in Season 2, starting October 2015, and quickly delivered solid results on circuits all over the world. The team won what was only its fourth race in Buenos Aires back in February 2016 and soon became one of the leading players in the 100% electric championship.

As each season went on, the DS Performance crews – the competition arm of DS Automobiles – developed cars that delivered increasing performance and reliability. And it was the first GEN2 car that marked a date with destiny for DS Automobiles thanks to a double title in both the Teams’ and Drivers’ rankings, sealed by Jean-Eric Vergne in Season 5, 2018/19.

The marque repeated the feat the following year with a second double courtesy of Antonio Felix Da Costa.

DS in Formula E: Four titles, 16 wins and a cabinet full of silverware

Heading into its 10th season of Formula E, the brand has racked up 121 races and four titles as well as 16 wins, 51 podiums and 24 Julius Baer Pole Positions.

Now, after two years of intense work, the DS squad is ready for its latest challenger, the DS E-TENSE FE25, to take to the track in Sao Paulo. This is the GEN3 Evo car at the forefront of electric technology, which will be driven by Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E’s only two-time champion, and the talented German Maximilian Guenther.

From race track to the DS line-up on the road

While the DS Performance crews have worked hard to constantly increase their efficiency on the track, DS Automobiles has accelerated its electrification programme by enriching the range of self-charging HYBRID powerplants on the DS 3 and DS 4. Next, a 100% electric DS 4 will go on sale, alongside the 100% electric DS 3 that has been part of the family since 2020.

Finally, the brand will very shortly launch the brand-new all-electric DS N°8 that offers an exceptional range of 750 kilometres. All of these developments share the same goal: to anticipate the rapidly changing needs of the automobile industry as a whole.

More than ever, the company’s Formula E programme forms a fundamental plank of its business. The objective for DS Automobiles in Season 11 is clear: secure the maximum number of podiums and get in among the leaders, together with its partner PENSKE AUTOSPORT.

Olivier François, DS Automobiles CEO: “With the pioneering nature of our company when it comes to electrification being perfectly aligned with the technological spirit of the championship, our long-term engagement in Formula E was a natural step. The platform provided by the championship helps us on the technical side, but also when it comes to marketing.

"Our many wins and our four titles have helped to bolster our reputation on an international scale. On top of that, our all-electric single-seaters are fantastic accelerators of technological development. Every owner of an electrified DS road car today benefits from our Formula E campaign.”

Key figures since DS Automobiles entered Formula E:

  • 121 races
  • 4 championship titles
  • 16 victories
  • 51 podiums
  • 24 poles
