Hughes tops second test session in Madrid

Maserati MSG Racing's Jake Hughes led the way in Session 2 on Day 2 of the Madrid pre-season test from Jake Dennis (Andretti) and Dan Ticktum (Kiro).

Day 2 of the Madrid test at the Circuito de Jarama saw morning sun and quicker times than yesterday afternoon's opening session, with Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa's best effort of 1m29.220s eclipsed by Maserati new-boy Hughes' 1m28.604s. The Brit headed home Season 8 champion Dennis by just 0.081s with Ticktum a further three tenths back in third.

Reigning champion Pascal Wehrlein rounded in fourth, in the same ballpark as Ticktum's new, Porsche-powered and freshly branded Kiro GEN3 Evo car.

Stoffel Vandoorne - a new signing at Maserati MSG Racing - made it two in the top five for the Trident, and three champions in the top five, too. Sam Bird (NEOM McLaren) meanwhile, rounded out the top six despite an earlier trip through the gravel - the Brit forced into evasive manoeuvres on cold tyres.

The Teams' and Manufacturers' title winners Jaguar TCS Racing got their first laps in following their suspension from yesterday's action due to their 2022/23 cost cap breach of the Formula E Financial Regulations. They struggled; with Nick Cassidy down in 18th and Mitch Evans 20th.

Testing will resume this afternoon, with another three hour session.
